Mystics Alana Beard selected to All-Star team

Washington, D.C. -Washington Mystics guard/forward Alana Beard has been named as a reserve to the 2005 WNBA All-Star team for the Eastern Conference. It will be the first All-Star game for Beard who was drafted by the Mystics with the first-round (second overall) pick of the 2004 draft. She currently leads the team with 14.5 ppg and 1.8 spg.

"It is a privilege to be named to the All-Star team. I am sure will be a wonderful experience to get a chance to play alongside so many accomplished players," said Beard. "I want to thank my teammates, coaches and especially all of the Mystics fans for their continued support."

The All-Star reserves where selected by the WNBA coaches. The 2005 WNBA All-Star Game will be hosted by the Connecticut Sun on Saturday, July 9 at the Mohegan Sun Arena. The game will be televised nationally on ABC at 4:00 p.m. EDT.

Washington will take on the Detroit Shock on Thursday, July 7th at 7:00 p.m. Individual tickets for Thursdays game as well as the entire season are currently on sale and can be purchased by visiting MCI Center's Box Office, calling TicketMaster Phone Charge at (202)397-SEAT or by visiting the Mystics web site at www.washingtonmystics.com .
