Myrtle Beach Pelicans Game Notes

July 30, 2011 - Carolina League (CarL1)
Myrtle Beach Pelicans News Release

The Pelicans host the middle game of three against the Winston-Salem Dash tonight. First pitch at BB&T Coastal Field is scheduled for 7:05 p.m.

LHP Matt Wickswat (4-1, 3.14) at LHP Miguel De Los Santos (2-2, 2.89)

SO CLOSE: Travis Adair singled in the second inning last night, running his streak of consecutive at bats with a hit to 10-for-10. He struck out looking in the fourth to snap the streak two shy of the Carolina League record. Infielder Kenny Kuhn knocked 12 consecutive hits for the Burlington Indians in 1958 and for now his place in history is safe.

JOE NO-NO!: Former Pelican Joe Wieland was called up to the Double-A Frisco RoughRiders in June after leading the Birds to the first-half division title and was 3-0 with a 1.54 ERA in his first six starts for the ‘Riders, but he was even better last night. The righty pitched a no-hitter against the San Antonio Missions, who are tied with the San Jose Giants of the high-A California League for the best record in minor league baseball. It's even more impressive considering that the gem was tossed in San Antonio, where the Missions hold the best home mark in professional baseball. Wieland's amazing performance is the fourth in Frisco franchise history and their first nine-inning no-no by one pitcher.
