Mariot Magnificent as Rocks Rally Past K-Tribe

Wilmington, DE - Michael Mariot coupled with some timely offense to help the Wilmington Blue Rocks rally from an early deficit and down the Kinston Indians, 4-1, on Saturday night at Frawley Stadium.
Mariot (7-3) allowed just a single unearned score in 7.2 innings while Wilmington plated all of its runs in the final four frames.
The teams each notched their first tally of the night thanks to some shaky defense.
Mariot's errant throw to third on a sharp comebacker to the mound allowed Tyler Casas to score for Kinston in the opening frame.
The K-Tribe would hold onto that advantage until the sixth inning, when Wilmington pulled even without the benefit of a hit.
Whit Merrifield walked and then was sacrificed to second by Carlo Testa.
Kinston starter Clayton Clark responded by striking out Nick Van Stratten, but the third strike bounced off the shin guard of catcher Adam Abraham.
Abraham's throw to first finished the strikeout, but Merrifield alertly broke for third.
Jesus Aguilar attempted to gun him down, but the first baseman's toss sailed well wide of third base.
The error allowed Merrifield to come home, and the game was tied, 1-1.
Wilmington took its first lead of the night a frame later.
Ryan Stovall opened the inning with an infield single deep in the hole at short.
Tim Ferguson followed with a hit-and-run single through the vacated starting point of the covering second baseman.
Deivy Batista walked one out later to load the bases with one away for Gerard Hall.
Kinston decided to go to its bullpen, pulling Cook 6-8) in favor of Kyle Landis.
It made no matter to the Wilmington shortstop, who came up large by sending a liner into left field that plated both Stovall and Ferguson.
The two-run single put the Blue Crew ahead to stay.
Wilmington added some insurance in the eighth thanks to a pair of two-out hits and a bruise.

wasted little time extending the longest active hitting streak in the Carolina League.
Merrifield doubled in the opening inning, making it knocks in 12 straight games. The centerfielder went 1-for-3 with a run scored and a walk on Saturday and is hitting .306 (15-for-49) during the streak.
The 12-gamer is the second-longest by a Blue Rock in 2011.

hit safely in 13 consecutive contests from April 15-29.
Wilmington 's bid to play error-free baseball in three consecutive games ended even earlier.
