Winston-Salem Dash News Release

MYRTLE BEACH, SC - Winston-Salem took a season-high nine walks, including five in the three-run second inning and Matt Wickswat hurled another gem in Winston's 6-1 win over Myrtle Beach on Saturday night at BB&T Ballpark. The victory was a season-high sixth straight for the Dash and extends the lead in the division to 1.5 games over Kinston, who lost earlier in the day

Myrtle Beach (18-18, 58-47) pitchers struggled with control throughout the entire ballgame, but never more than in the second inning. Juan Silverio singled with one out, before the walk parade began. Pelicans starter Miguel De Los Santos walked Nick Ciolli, Mike Blanke, and Kyle Colligan in succession to score the first run of the game for Winston. After Daniel Wagner struck out, Tyler Saladino walked to make it 2-0. De Los Santos was pulled for reliever Kasey Kiker, who gave a free pass to Jared Mitchell to score the third run of the inning on only one hit.

In the fifth, Saladino started another rally with a walk to lead off the inning and advanced to third on Mitchell's single. Mitchell moved up to second base on a throw to third base. Brady Shoemaker followed with a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Saladino. Ian Gac then hit a broken-bat single into center to plate Mitchell and put the Dash up 5-0.

Winston (20-15, 52-53) scored one more in the sixth when Blanke walked to start the inning and later scored on a sac fly to center field by Wagner.

The Birds struck for one against Wickswat. In his final inning of work, Wickswat allowed a lead-off double to Jared Prince and then a single to Zach Zaneski that scored Prince. Other than the one run, Wickswat (5-1) continued a great stretch. He won his fifth straight game after going seven innings and giving up four hits and striking out seven. De Los Santos (2-3) got the loss after he allowed three runs (all earned) on one hit. He walked four, and the Myrtle pitching staff combined to issue nine total free passes.
