Winnipeg Goldeyes News Release

The Winnipeg Goldeyes stared down victory, glanced at defeat and finally settled on victory in a 4:20 marathon win at Shaw Park Saturday night.

In the bottom the 13th inning, Brian Myrow hit an RBI single to give the Goldeyes (9-7) a 7-6 win over the visiting Gary SouthShore RailCats (7-8) before 4,611 spectators.

The Goldeyes held a 4-3 lead going into the ninth inning before Gary rallied to tie the game at four and give Winnipeg closer Jamie Vermilyea his first blown save of the season.

It would be Gary that would score first in extra innings when it posted two runs in the top of the 12th inning before Alan Rick used a two-run single to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning.

Winnipeg grabbed a 4-2 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning, but saw the RailCats cut the lead to one in the eighth inning and tie the game in the ninth.

The Goldeyes were led by Myrow, who went 4-for-6 in the game and had the game-winning RBI. Price Kendall had a three-hit night and scored the winning run.

Starting pitcher Dustin Glant went 6.1 innings and allowed two runs and left the game in a position to be the winner, but it was Zach Baldwin's two innings of relief that got him the win. Brian Grening takes the loss for Gary.

The win is Winnipeg's first in extra innings and breaks a six-game losing streak to Gary, which dates back to last year.

The Goldeyes will be out to win the series Sunday afternoon when they send Ace Walker (0-1, 4.58) to the mound against southpaw Derrick Gordon (0-1, 2.65) from the RailCats. Game time is 1:30 p.m.
