Shreveport-Bossier Captains News Release

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX---After scoring 29 runs in their last two games, the Shreveport-Bossier Captains could manage just three runs off AirHogs starter John Brownell (3-0) as Grand Prairie beat the Captains 5-3. The loss dropped the Captains to 9-7, one and a half games behind Grand Prairie in the American Association South Division. It was the first time all year the Captains had lost back-to-back games and means that Shreveport-Bossier will lose a series for the first time this year.

The AirHogs scored three runs in the bottom of the first off Captains starter Aaron Cunningham (1-2). Cunningham walked John Alonso and Tyler Henley with the bases loaded, then gave up a sacrifice fly to Jake Taylor to give Grand Prairie the 3-0 lead. Cunningham would settle down however, allowing just two runs after that in five plus innings of work. He allowed eight hits and walked five, while striking out one. He did keep the AirHogs off the scoreboard in the third, fourth and fifth innings as the Captains tried to claw their way back into the game.

Shreveport-Bossier got a run back in the second on a Palmer Karr Jr. RBI single. Karr, who played for the Captains last year, was three-four-four in his first game back with the club. Uriak Marquez scored on Karr's second-inning single. The Captains second baseman singled to extend his hit streak to 13 games. First baseman Andres Rodriguez went two-for-four with two RBIs, also extending his hit streak to 12 games.

With the score 4-1, Rodriguez singled home Rober Perry in the third to cut the lead to 4-2.

In the sixth, the AirHogs took a 5-2 lead when catcher Scott Clement hit an RBI double, knocking Cunningham from the game. Captains relievers Jake McCarter and Jameson Maj would combine to throw three shut out innings with four strikeouts and one walk. The Captains scored once in the seventh on another RBI single by Rodriguez, but Bryan Sabatella was thrown out at third trying to advance a base on a wild pitch to end a two-on, two-out rally for Shreveport-Bossier.

The Captains went down in order in the eighth inning against AirHogs reliever Justin Cameron. In the ninth, closer Jon Hunton picked up his fifth save with a 1-2-3 ninth.

Shreveport-Bossier closes out their 10-game road trip tomorrow night at QuikTrip Park as they look to win the final game of the three-game set with the AirHogs. First pitch is at 6:05 p.m.
