FORT WORTH - The Sioux Falls Pheasants won their third straight game on Saturday night and swept a two-game series against the Fort Worth Cats with a 6-3 win at La Grave Field. The Pheasants used a five-run first inning and the stifling pitching of Ben Moore to improve their record to 7-9.

Moore (3-0) carried a one-hit shutout into the eighth inning before giving up two unearned runs. In 7 2/3 innings, he limited the Cats to just three hits while striking out eight. He lowered his season ERA to a miniscule 0.63.

The Pheasants got to Fort Worth starter Derek Blacksher (0-3) quickly in the first inning. Brandon Sing started with an RBI groundout. Mark Shorey then walked, Reggie Abercrombie legged out an infield hit and Trevor Lawhorn doubled both home. Gus Milner followed with a single to score Lawhorn for a 5-0 lead.

Joe Anthonsen chipped in a RBI single in the top of the ninth inning for a 6-2 lead. Henry Contreras, Anthonsen and Milner each had two hits for the Pheasants, who collected 11 total. Fort Worth threatened in the bottom of the ninth, loading the bases with nobody out and scoring a run on a groundout. But Aaron Cotter shut the door by retiring the final three batters for his third save of the season.

Moore and the bullpen limited the Cats to just four hits while keeping them from capitalizing on opportunities. The Cats stranded eight runners.

A five-game road trip through Texas could hardly have started bleaker for the Pheasants, who dropped their first two games against Amarillo. But they rebounded for three straight wins to finish the tour 3-2.

The Pheasants return home to open a four-game series against Lincoln at 7:05 p.m. on Monday, May 30, at Sioux Falls Stadium. Tickets are available by visiting the box office or going online to www.sfpheasants.com.
