Catcher Craig Maddox Added to RailCats Roster

GARY, Ind. - The Gary SouthShore RailCats have another catcher in the mix for 2011 with the signing of experienced backstop Craig Maddox it was announced today.

Maddox, 26, is a veteran of four seasons in professional baseball after a stellar career at Southeastern University. A career .249 hitter, the Georgia native comes to the RailCats after spending last season with the Worcester Tornadoes in the Canadian-American Association where Maddox batted .210 appearing in 37 games with three homers and ten RBI.

Prior to his time with the Tornadoes, Maddox batted .291 in 48 games for the Schaumburg Flyers in the last half of the 2009 season. Maddox began the 2009 campaign in the Rome, Ga. with the Single-A affiliate of the Atlanta Braves appearing in 11 games before joining the Flyers. Maddox signed as undrafted free agent out of college with the Detroit Tigers where he appeared in 25 games for the Gulf Coast League Tigers before joining the Independent ranks with the New Jersey Jackals in the Can-Am League.

Maddox helped lead the Southeastern University Fire to consecutive National Christian College Athletic Association Division II (NCCAA) National Championships in his final two seasons en route to being named NCCAA Player of the Year in 2007. Maddox was also named to the all-tournament in both 2006 and 2007.

To make room for Maddox on the roster, the RailCats placed INF Brian Kolb on the disabled list retroactive to Monday, May 23.

The RailCats return to U. S. Steel Yard on Friday, June 7 at 7:10 p.m. for the first game of a seven-game homestand.
