Lincoln Saltdogs News Release

LINCOLN - Tim Brown had a strong outing and Curt Smith belted his second home run of the year as the Lincoln Saltdogs topped the Wichita Wingnuts 5-2 in front of 3,444 fans at Haymarket Park Saturday night.

After Wichita starter Ryan Hinson retired the first 10 hitters he faced, the Saltdogs sprung for four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Smith homered and Jon Nelson, Maikel Jova and Robby Alcombrack stroked RBI doubles to give Lincoln a 4-0 lead.

The Wingnuts tallied two unearned runs on a Jorge Cortes double the next inning but that would be all the visiting team would muster.

Brown (1-2) pitched 6 2/3 innings, allowing no earned runs on eight hits, striking out three and walking one to earn the win. Hinson (2-1) worked seven frames, giving up five runs - four earned - on seven hits while striking out three and walking one to suffer the loss.

PJ Zocchi threw a hitless ninth inning to tally his fifth save of the year.

Lincoln added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth inning on a Gavin Dickey infield single, scoring Phil Hawke.

The teams meet for the series finale Sunday evening at 5:05 p.m. Alex Maestri (1-1,4.91) is scheduled to take the mound for the Saltdogs against Nick Singleton (4-0, 4.26) for the Wingnuts. Radio coverage begins at 4:35 p.m. on KFOR 1240.
