Brampton Steelheads News Release

Mississauga, ON - The Mississauga Steelheads travelled to St. Catharines Sunday afternoon for an important Central Division matchup against the Niagara IceDogs. Coming into Sunday's game, both teams were 5-5 in their last 10. The IceDogs dropped their last game 3-1 to the London Knights while the Steelheads were coming off a 5-4 victory over the top ranked Erie Otters. Mississauga carried that momentum into today's game as Daniel Muzito-Bagenda and Nathan Bastian each scored twice en route to a 6-2 victory.

Mississauga jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first period of play as Swedish imports Daniel Muzito-Bagenda and Alexander Nylander both capitalized on turnovers. Josh Burnside picked up the puck in the offensive zone and fed Muzito-Bagenda who went top shelf blocker side to put Mississauga up by 1. Minutes later, Nylander picked the pocket of Graham Knott in the neutral zone and jumped out on a breakaway. Nylander put a nice move on Alexander Nedeljkovic for his 27th of the season as the Steelheads lead 2-0 heading into the first intermission.

The Steelheads continued to dominate, adding three quick goals to start off the second. Muzito-Bagenda added his second of the night, and fourth goal in two games, from Nicolas Hague and Jack Flinn on the power play. 20 seconds later, Jason Smith would increase the Steelheads' lead 4-0 from Ryan McLeod and Sean Day. Nathan Bastian would add a third goal from Nylander and Josh Burnside giving Mississauga a comfortable five-goal cushion. Some penalty trouble would cost the Steelheads as the IceDogs responded with two back-to-back power play goals from DiFruscia and Perlini to cut the deficit 5-2 heading into the second intermission.

That was as close at the IceDogs would come as the Steelheads knotted a sixth goal in the third from Nathan Bastian, his second of the night, from Josh Burnside.
