London, Ont. - With the game tied 2-2 five minutes into the final period, the Firebirds put forth a strong performance but fell to the #5 London Knights by three goals in front of a sellout crowd of more than 9,000 fans at the Budweiser Gardens on Monday afternoon.

London's Mitchell Marner, the fourth pick overall in the 2015 NHL Draft by the Toronto Maple Leafs, scored his first of the night and 33rd of the season 1:12 into the game from the top of the right circle. Marner increased the Knights lead to two goals at 7:37 of the first period with a blast from the point on the power play.

The Firebirds cut the Knights lead in half six minutes later on a tic-tac-toe three-pass play. Ryan Moore entered the London zone on the right wing wall and dropped the puck to Alex Di Carlo who one-touched the disc back to Moore at the right circle. Moore quickly found Kirwan at the left circle who finished off the highlight reel play, scoring past Tyler Parsons.

After a scoreless second period, Nicholas Caamano tied the game 4:57 into the final frame. While in the London zone, Moore earned his second assist of the night and fifth point in three games by sweeping the puck to Samuel Duschesne at the left point. Duchesne fired the puck on net that was deflected to the right side of the slot before Caamano found the back of the net on a diving play.

Christian Dvorak would regain the lead for the Knights scoring top shelf over Moran's right shoulder at 6:57. Then, from behind the Firebirds net, Moran ripped the puck up the left wing wall that took an unfortunate bounce off a stanchion right onto Aaron Berisha's stick. Berisha's first shot was blocked by Duchesne right back to his tape prior to scoring five-hole for the 4-2 lead.

With 1:12 remaining in the contest and the extra attacker out for Flint, Matthew Tkachuk intercepted a pass and scored on the empty net from the left circle for the final tally of the evening.

The Firebirds are back in action this Thursday on home ice against the #5 Erie Otters. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. (EST) at the Dort Federal Event Center and thursday is "College Night!"
