CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The American Hockey League announced today that Checkers goaltender John Muse has been selected as the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Oct. 27.

Muse was perfect in his first two starts of the season, stopping all 57 shots he faced and helping the Checkers to a 2-0-1 record in a three-games-in-three-nights road stint.

On Friday, the 25-year-old third-year pro made 30 saves to blank the defending Calder Cup champion Grand Rapids Griffins, 5-0, before turning away all 27 shots he faced Sunday for another 5-0 victory, this time over the Chicago Wolves.

A two-time NCAA champion at Boston College (2008, 2010), Muse has a record of 19-10-3 in 33 career AHL games with the Checkers and was also named MVP of the ECHL's Kelly Cup Playoffs in 2012.

In recognition of his achievement, Muse will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Checkers home game.

The Checkers continue their six-game road trip Wednesday in Grand Rapids (7 p.m. ET) and will return to Charlotte on Thursday, Nov. 7, to face the Wolves. Tickets are available at www.ticketmaster.com and the Time Warner Cable Arena box office.
