Charlotte's John Muse Named CCM/AHL Player of the Week

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. ... The American Hockey League announced today that Charlotte Checkers goaltender John Muse has been selected as the CCM/AHL Player of the Week for the period ending Oct. 27, 2013.
Muse made his first two AHL appearances of the season over the weekend and was perfect, stopping all 57 shots he faced in a pair of impressive victories.
As Charlotte faced a weekend of three road games in three cities with their goaltending tandem of Justin Peters and Mike Murphy both on recall to the parent Carolina Hurricanes, Muse drew the start on Friday night at Grand Rapids and made 30 saves to blank the defending Calder Cup champion Griffins, 5-0. Then on Sunday afternoon, Muse turned aside all 27 shots he faced as Charlotte defeated host Chicago, 5-0, to give the Checkers five of a possible six points on the weekend (2-0-0-1).
A two-time NCAA champion at Boston College (2008, 2010), Muse has a record of 20-10-3 in 34 career AHL appearances with Charlotte and Portland, registering a 2.35 goals-against average, a .922 save percentage and four shutouts. The 25-year-old native of East Falmouth, Mass., was named the MVP of the ECHL's Kelly Cup Playoffs in 2012.
In recognition of his achievement, Muse will be presented with an etched crystal award prior to an upcoming Checkers home game.
