
Murphy's Late Blast Lifts Honkers over Chinooks

(Rochester,MN)-- Max Murphy (Bradley) broke a tie with a solo homerun in the bottom of the eighth inning for the Rochester Honkers in a 2-1 win over the Lakeshore Chinooks on Thursday, August 8, at Mayo Field.
Andrew Stevenson led off the game with a solo homerun over the right-center field fence to give the Chinooks an early 1-0 lead.
Reid Roper (Illinois) started the bottom of the third inning with a single for the Honkers. Kalei Hanawahine (Hawaii,) Caleb Dugas (Copiah-Lincoln Community College,) and Murphy drew consecutive walks to score Roper and tie the score at 1-1.
The score remained knotted at 1-1 until the bottom of the eighth inning when Murphy launched a 3-1 pitch from Jack Landwehr over the right-center field fence for his fourth homerun of season to give Rochester its first lead of the game at 2-1.
Alex Tenorio (Menlo College) earned the win (3-1) for the Honkers as he did not allow a hit in 2.1 scoreless innings in relief. Landwehr took the loss (0-2) for the Chinooks as he allowed one run on two hits in two innings. Rochester's starting pitcher Quinn Carpenter (Iowa Western) settled down after allowing the lead-off homerun, as he allowed the one run on just two hits, while recording ten strikeouts in 5.2 innings. Jeff Campbell (North Dakota) picked up his first save of the season as he pitched a scoreless ninth inning to close the door on Lakeshore.
The two teams will finish up a two-game series on Friday, August 9, at Mayo Field. Logan Spitzack (St. Cloud State) is scheduled to make the start for Rochester (10-22, 28-39,) while Donnie Hissa (Notre Dame) is slated to start for Lakeshore (21-12,42-25.) After the series with the Chinooks, the Honkers will host the Duluth Huskies for a pair of games to conclude the regular season. There will be a fireworks extravaganza, presented by ABC 6 News, following Friday's game.
