Rox & Rafters Split Doubleheader Wednesday Night

St. Cloud, Minn. - *The St. Cloud Rox and the Wisconsin Rapids Rafters held a doubleheader Wednesday night with two seven inning games at Joe Faber Field. The Rox fell in game one 10-9 and prevailed in game two 5-1.

In game one, the Rox took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first off a sacrifice fly to right field by Chris Paul bringing Eric Loxtercamp across home plate.

Wisconsin Rapids took over the lead in the top of the second as they put up five runs to take a 5-1 lead over St. Cloud.

The Rox brought the game within two of the Rafters in the bottom of the second as Vincent Jackson scored off a wild pitch and Blake Headley scored off a single by Loxtercamp for a 5-3 game.

The Rafters extended their lead 6-3 in the top of the third off a wild pitch. Wisconsin Rapids would continue to score as they put up one run in the fourth and two in the fifth for a 9-3 lead over the Rox.

St. Cloud rallied back in the bottom of the sixth as Tim Colwell started the inning earning a walk on four pitches. Luke Weber followed hitting a single. Colwell moved to third with one out on a single by Dustin Breshears. Another single for the Rox, this time by Blake Headley would score one run and a single by Loxtercamp scored another making it a 9-5 game. With the bases loaded Devin Pearson would earn a walk scoring another run to trail 9-6. Chris Paul ended the scoring in the inning hitting a two-run single on two outs for the Rox to trail 9-8.

In the bottom of the seventh the Rox were able to tie the game up 9-9 off a single by Breshears that ultimately took the game to extra innings. The Rafters sealed a 10-9 victory over the Rox in the top of the 10th inning scoring on a two out triple.

On the mound for the Rox in game one was starting pitcher Jason Hoppe as he pitched 1.1 innings and was relieved by John Oltman for three innings. Also seeing action was Reese Gregory for 2.2 innings and Adam Maxon for three innings and recording the loss.

In game two, it was not until the bottom of the third when the first run was score in the game as the Rox scored off a one out single by Devin Pearson.

The Rafters tied the game up 1-1 in the top of the fifth on a solo home run over the right field fence by Zack Belanger.

St. Cloud regained the lead scoring on a wild pitch as Pearson scored for the 2-1 lead. The Rox extended their lead 5-1 in the bottom of the sixth as they put up three runs on four hits.

Wisconsin Rapids went three up and three down in the top of the seventh for the Rox to seal a 5-1 victory in game two.

The St. Cloud Times Rox' Player of the Game is Eric Loxtercamp for game one Wednesday night and in game two it is Devin Pearson.

The St. Cloud Rox (33-33, 19-12 Second Half) will be back in action on Thursday night against the La Crosse Loggers for another two game series. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. with the gates opening one hour prior to game time at Joe Faber Field.
