Border Cats Score 11 in Fourth, Defeat Chucks 16-3

Thunder Bay, Ontario - The Thunder Bay Border Cats put up 16 runs against the Wisconsin Woodchucks on Thursday, including an 11-run fourth, to defeat the Woodchucks 16-3.

The Woodchucks would open the scoring right away in the top of the first. Kyle Haen and Tell Taylor led the game off with back-to-back singles. Haen was gunned down trying to advance to third on Taylor's single, but the the throw would allow Taylor to advance to second. Tyler Adams hit a chopper up the first base line that pitcher Cameron Wood bobbled, allowing Adams to reach. Wood then tried to flip the ball to first, but the throw was wide for Wood's second error on the play. Taylor came in to score from second, putting the Woodchucks on top 2-0.

Woodchucks starter Chad Kim was able to hold the Border Cats off the board until the bottom of the third. After a lead off single by Dylan Becker, Becker would score on a double by Jason Vosler to cut the Woodchucks lead to a run. Vosler scored later in the inning as well on a groundout by Adam Collins to tie the game at two runs apiece.

After Wood held the Woodchucks off the board in the fourth, the Border Cats offense would claim the lead in the bottom of the inning. The Border Cats were able to score 11 runs, highlighted by a Dylan Becker grand slam to take a 13-2 lead over the Woodchucks.

John Menken provided some pop for the Woodchucks in the top of the sixth. Leading off the frame, Menken lined a ball just over the left-center field fence for a solo home run to draw the Woodchucks within ten. It was Menken's second home run of the season.Wood was able to pick up the win after going five innings, and allowing just the two first run innings in the victory.

The Woodchucks and Border Cats will square off again tomorrow at Subway Field to conclude the two game series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:05 CST.
