The Series vs Lynchburg -- The Mudcats embark on their second trip to Lynchburg, Virginia this week. The Mudcats had a successful business trip the first time around, sweeping the Hillcats by a combined 23-13 score. For the season, the Mudcats have swept Hillcats twice (home and away) and own a .315 collective batting average through 12 games. Carolina leads the overall series 29-23 and the team holds a 16-10 record at City Stadium.

Last Time Out -- The Mudcats topped off a marathon night with a thrilling 5-4 win over the Lynchburg Hillcats on Wednesday night. The team scored seven times in the eighth inning to pull away for a 12-4 triumph in the comple- tion of Tuesday's suspended game. Michael Peoples earned the win in the originally scheduled contest by tossing a season-high 6.2 innings. He allowed three runs on four hits, but struck out eight. Ben Heller worked around three walks to earn his first Carolina League save. Erik Gonzalez combined for four hits across the two games and cracked his second home run of the year with the Mudcats.

Tonight's Pitching Probables -- The Mudcats look to clinch another series win in Lynchburg tonight as they turn to D.J. Brown. The right-hander allowed five runs, two earned, on seven hits across 5.2 innings against Salem his last time out. Brown has not won a decision since April 24, a span of 12 appearances. As a starter, Brown owns a 2-4 record with a 4.87 ERA. Wes Parsons makes his 17th start for the Hillcats tonight. The Clarksville, Tenn., native is 4-5 with a 4.50 ERA. Parsons, a right-hander, has struggled since the All-Star break. In four starts, he is 0-2 with a 6.86 ERA after surrendering 20 runs, 16 earned, on 26 hits in 21.0 IP.

Down to the Wire -- The Carolina Mudcats have been involved in more than their share of close games this year. In fact, 48 of their 88 games have been decided by two runs or less. Wednesday night's 5-4 win was their 11th one-run victory and seventh in their last eight decided by two or less. For the year, the team is 22-26 in games decided by two or less.

Good to See You, Hank -- Todd Hankins has made an immediate impact for the Mudcats since his return from an oblique injury. In his first two games back, Hankins has three hits, including a double, a stolen base and has scored twice. Since hitting .149 in April, Hankins has turned into a feature of the lineup. The former 15th round pick from 2011 hit .318 in May and .319 in June. He has boosted is overall average to .269 and leads the team with 18 stolen bases.

Funky Cold Medina -- Yhoxian Medina extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a RBI-single the second in- ning of Wednesday's game. During his streak, the infielder is hitting .435 (20x46) with nine extra-base hits. He has scored 12 times and plated five. Coupled with five walks, Medina owns a .490 OBP during this stretch.

Trending Up -- The addition of Heller to Carolina's bullpen should only help a bullpen that's been on the rise of late. Jacob Lee allowed an unearned run in three innings on Monday, but has held opposing offenses without an earned run since June 10, a span of seven appearances (11.2 IP). He's dropped his ERA from 5.33 to 3.40. Like- wise, Clayton Cook has allowed just one run over his last four appearances (10.1 IP).

Muddy's Tales -- The Mudcats return home to host the Winston-Salem Dash for four, fun-filled days. The series kicks off with Fireworks Friday, a 7 p.m. start, on July 11th. The SweetRight Brothers will be in town to entertain fans of all ages for Saturday's 6 p.m. tilt. Kids Run the Bases, presented by Amerigas, returns with a 2 p.m. mati- nee on Sunday, July 13 and the series wraps up with a special 11 a.m. start on Monday, July 14.
