Salem Red Sox News Release

The Salem Sox look to avoid a first home sweep since April tonight against the Frederick Keys. Notes attached. Also attached is an updated Sox roster, with Ryan Dent's promotion to Portland and Kenderick Perkins promoted from Greenville.

Lightning in a Bottle: Pat Light has been as good as anyone on the Salem staff his last two times out, a impressive turnaround from his start to the half. Light was roughed up to the tune of 20 hits and 15 runs in just six and a third innings. But in his last two starts, Light has allowed just eight hits, two runs, and only one earned run in eleven innings. His last time out was his best outing of the year, holding the Mudcats to a run on three hits in six innings.

It's Still Miller Time : It came down to his final at-bat, but Mike Miller managed to extend his hit streak to nine games with a single to left- center in the eight inning last night. Miller holds a .531 average over that stretch (17/32), including eight runs scored. Mike has now reached base in 16 of the 18 games he's played in the second half. Remarkably, Miller is now up to .344 for the season in 31 games with the Salem Red Sox since his promotion June 1st.

Reversal of Fortunes: In the month of June, the Sox were dominant at home and struggled on the road. Through nine days of July, that trend has completely reversed. After last night's loss, the Sox have as many home losses in July as they did in all of June (3). And the Sox 3-2 road record in the month gives them more road wins in July then Salem achieved in all of June. The Sox had lost 21 of 27 and 11 of 13 on the road entering July. Conversely the Sox had taken 22 of 34 and 10 of 13 at home entering this home stand. The Sox are in jeopardy of being swept at home for the first time since April, when the Pelicans took four straight from the 11th to 14th of the season's opening month.

Breaking a Trend: Despite an outstanding start from Justin Haley last night, the Sox still could not taste victory. It was the first time the Sox had lost when their starter went six innings in a while. Salem had won their last six contest when their starter went six innings, dating back to June 23rd. Ironically, it was also Haley who went six innings that day in the loss. Salem is now 25-10 when their starter goes six or more. Conversely, the Sox are just 17-36 when their start- er goes less than six innings, including dropping seven of the last nine games when the starter is done before hitting six innings.

Other Notable Nuggets: Aneury Tavarez snapped his nine game hit streak, after going 0-3 last night.

Jantzen Witte has hit in six straight games and nine of ten overall. He holds a .325 average in his last ten.

Salem's opponents have scored first in six straight games. In four of the six, Salem has trailed after the first inning. The Sox are just 14- 32 when their opponent scores first, and 8-18 when the opponent leads after the first inning. Salem is 2-4 in this six game stretch.

With Christian Vazquez's promotion to Boston yesterday, he became the 29th player to play for Salem and make it to the show since the Red Sox affiliation began in 2009. He is the eight player to make his major league debut who played in Salem since the start of 2012.
