Frederick Keys News Release

SALEM, VA -Mike Yastrzemski clubbed a go-ahead double in the top of the ninth, while a second two-bagger by Trey Mancini provided critical insurance, as the Frederick Keys completed a four-game sweep of the Salem Red Sox on Thursday night. Earning a 5-4 win, the orange and black earned their sixth straight victory, the most the club has registered since July 14-19, 2011. The Keys also earned their first road sweep since 2011, while the team finished its roadtrip 6-1.

Making his second Carolina League start of the season, and his fifth rehab start since undergoing Tommy Johnson surgery last June, Dylan Bundy worked a quick first, but struggled in the second. The right-hander walked the first two of the inning, before striking out the next two batters. From there Bundy jumped ahead of Kendrick Perkins 0-2, but the eight-hole man singled to score Jantzen Witte. Jordan Weems followed with a second RBI single, while Matty Johnson lined out to third to end the inning. In the second, Bundy needed 32 pitches.

Salem tallied one more in third on a single by Heller, a stolen base and an RBI base hit by Mario Martinez to end Bundy's night. On a 75-pitch limit, the Oklahoma native gave up three-runs in three-plus innings on five hits. He walked two and struck out two.

Down 3-0, Frederick got on the board in the sixth on a double by Michael Burgess and a sac-fly by Brenden Webb, before the visitors evened the count one inning later. Wynston Sawyer and Yastrzemski singled, while a walk to Glynn Davis loaded the bases. With the table set for Mancini, the former Notre Dame standout clubbed a two-run single to make it 3-3.

That is how things would stay until the ninth when the Keys took the lead for good. With one out, Jerome Pena singled. Yastrzemski proceeded to club a ball off the rightfield fence, while Pena came all the way to score, thanks to a nifty slide. A controversial call on a squeeze play saw Yastrzemski called out at home, but Mancini added his third RBI of the game with a second two-bagger to right which plated Davis.

Ahead 5-3, the Sox scored a run in the ninth on a fielder's choice by Jose Vinicio, but Salem left the tying run on second, as a groundout by Reed Gragnani ended the game. Dennis Torres (1-0) earned the win in relief tossing three innings of one-run baseball. Nate Reed (1-1) was hit with the loss for Salem, surrendering four runs on six hits in three innings of work.

The Keys begin a four-game homestand on Friday night against the Potomac Nationals. Branden Kline (5-3, 3.83) takes the mound for the Keys and will be countered by Nationals Austin Voth (1-0, 0.47). First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. from Harry Grove Stadium, and the broadcast can be heard on 1450 AM The Source. For ticket information, fans can call 301-815-9939 or visit frederickkeys.com.
