Carolina Mudcats News Release

ZEBULON, NC - Jose Marmolejos and Matt Reistetter both homered twice and combined to drive in five runs as the Nationals outlasted the Mudcats 9-5 in 10 innings on Wednesday afternoon at Five County Stadium.

Reistetter was 2-for-4 with two home runs, two runs and two RBI in Wednesday's game for the visiting Nationals (17-13). He homered in the fifth off Mudcats (13-18) starter Ryan Clark and homered again off reliever Zach Quintana in the 10th.

Quintana (1-3, 5.31) also allowed a two-run, home run to Marmolejos in the 10th, but it was Reistetter's that broke a 5-5 tie in the final inning on Wednesday. Quintana took the loss and worked through all of the 10th while allowing four runs on three hits. He also walked one and struck out two.

Marmolejos also homered off Clark in the fourth and was 2-for-4 with two home runs, three runs and three RBI in the Potomac victory. The Nationals homered twice and scored nine runs on 10 hits in the victory. They also went just 1-for-3 with runners in scoring position and left only two men on base.

Ryan Brinley (2-0, 0.64) earned the win, but did so only after suffering his first blown save of the season. He gave up a game tying, two-out RBI single to Joseph Odom in the ninth and allowed a run and three hits in Wednesday's game.

Odom was 3-for-5 for the Mudcats in the loss. He tied the game with a RBI single in the ninth and also had an inside-the-park home run in the sixth inning. Potomac's Dale Carey attempted to make a running catch on Odom's home run ball to right in the sixth, but the tumbled over the low wall along the right field line and did not come up with the catch. Carey fell off the field of play after going over the wall and while the ball sat on the warning track dirt, Odom then rounded the bases for his third home run of the season.

Jordan Edgerton also homered in the loss for the Mudcats. He launched a two-run shot to left in the second off starter Boone Whiting to give the Mudcats a 2-0 lead. The Nationals came back with three runs in the fourth and added one more in the fifth and sixth innings before Odom's inside-the-park home run. The Mudcats went on to chip away at the lead with another run in the seventh before eventually tying the game in the ninth.

Whiting allowed seven hits and three runs in his start against Carolina. He also walked one and struck out three over six innings. Mario Sanchez followed him out of the bullpen and allowed a run and two hits in the seventh. Brinley came on for the eighth and ninth and allowed the tying run before leaving the game. RC Orlan then pitched through the 10th and finished a scoreless frame while finishing the game.

Clark pitched into the sixth and allowed five runs and six hits over five and 1/3 innings. He managed to keep the Nationals without a run over the first three innings before finding trouble in the fourth. Michael O'Neal followed Clark out of the bullpen and allowed one inherited runner to score before pitching a scoreless seventh. Chase Johnson-Mullins came out for the eighth and ninth and blanked the Nationals while walking one and striking out two.

The Mudcats had multi hit games from Keith Curcio, Joey Meneses, Odom and Edgerton, but were just 2-for-11 with runners in scoring position in the loss and left 10 men on base. Meneses stretched his hitting streak to 15 straight games with a single in the third.

The Potomac victory evened the series at a game apiece with the finale and rubber game scheduled for Thursday night at 7:00 p.m. in Zebulon. RHP Enderon Franco will start for the Mudcats on Thursday night and brings in a three game winning streak into the start.
