Lynchburg Hillcats News Release

Bobby Bradley's two-run homer in the first inning gave the Hillcats the lead all the way until the eighth, but Salem scored five runs on six straight hits in its last trip to the plate to defeat Lynchburg, 6-3, at LewisGale Field Wednesday night.

BRADLEY ADDS TO LEAGUE-LEADING TOTALS

Bobby Bradley hit a hard line drive that cleared the fence in right field in the first inning to give Lynchburg an early 2-0 lead. His league-leading eighth home run of the season drove in Claudio Bautista, who walked earlier in the frame. In addition to home runs, Bradley also leads the Carolina League with 35 RBIs.

SHEFFIELD SLOWS SALEM

Salem entered the game with the league's best batting average at .282, but Justus Sheffield held the Red Sox in check for the most part. The left-hander limited Salem to one run on six hits in six-plus innings, striking out seven and only walking one.

Sheffield received some help from his defense in the fourth inning. After Andrew Benintendi singled to open the stanza, he tried to score from first on a double to the left field wall by Nick Longhi. However, Dorssys Paulino hustled to the ball and threw a strike to the shortstop Ivan Castillo, who fired a perfect relay on a hop to Daniel Salters directly in front of the plate to tag out Benintendi. That kept the Hillcats in front, 2-0.

The two teams traded runs in the fifth, beginning with the Hillcats in the visitors' half. Daniel Salters walked with one out and came home on an RBI groundout by Bautista. In the home half, Deiner Lopez hit a solo home run over the left field fence for the only run of the game against Sheffield.

SALEM DOES IT AGAIN

Trailing 3-1 entering the eighth, the Red Sox notched six consecutive hits to plate five runs and claim the game, 6-3. Mauricio Dubon started the sequence with a double, which was followed by singles by Benintendi, Longhi, Rafael Devers, and Danny Mars. A two-run triple by Mike Meyers capped off the barrage.

Nick Pasquale struck out the first four batters he faced out of the bullpen, but he allowed the first two hits of the rally and was charged with two runs in 1 1/3 innings as a result. Luke Eubank (1-1) took the defeat, giving up three runs on four hits in 2/3 of a frame.

SHORT HOPS

Lynchburg was 19-0 when leading after six innings at the beginning of this series but has dropped back-to-back contests to Salem in late-inning fashion...Mark Mathias had a hit in each of his first three at-bats and finished the game 3-4 to raise his average 22 points to .242...It was his second three-hit game of the year.
