MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - Cael Brockmeyer homered off the scoreboard in left-center and Zach Hedges threw strong innings, but the Winston-Salem Dash beat the Myrtle Beach Pelicans 5-1 Wednesday at TicketReturn.com Field at Pelicans Ballpark.

Winston-Salem (12-21) starter Matt Cooper (2-2) dominated throughout, working seven innings of one-run ball, tying a career-high with nine strikeouts. He gave up just five hits and did not walk a batter.

Hedges (3-3) retired the first eight batters of his outing, Cleuluis Rondon stroked a single to center with two outs. Adam Engel followed with a double to left center to score Rondon and make it 1-0 Dash.

After the Brockmeyer home run in the bottom of the inning tied the game for the Pelicans (16-15), Winston-Salem re-gained the lead in the fifth with another two-out rally. Back-to-back singles from Engel and Hunter Jones made it 2-1.

Hedges allowed two runs on six hits over six solid innings. He struck out six and only walked one.

In the seventh, Jones came to the plate with two outs and a runner on second. He rolled a grounder to first baseman Yasiel Balaguert, who issued a wild throw to pitcher Daury Torrez, who uncorked a wild throw of his own to the plate, which allowed the runner to score to make it 3-1 Winston-Salem.

With Jordan Minch pitching for Myrtle Beach in the eighth, The Dash strung together two walks and two hits to extend the lead to 5-1. Louie Lechich delivered the keynote, a two-run single down the right field line.

Jacob Morris worked two hitless innings to finish off the win.
