Mudbugs Well Represented In Best Of The Best Poll
March 9, 2010 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA - The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs have been honored with eight mentions in this year's Central Hockey League "Best of the Best" Poll. The annual poll allows players, coaches and operational staff from every CHL team to determine the best the league has to offer in 46 different categories, including items on the ice and off.
The Mudbugs were winners of three categories in 2010, while they also earned a second-place mention and four third-place finishes. Bossier-Shreveport was recognized in five on-ice categories and three areas off the ice.
Brett Smith led the individual awards for Bossier-Shreveport, being recognized as the CHL's "Best Defensive Forward" for the first time in his career. The Mudbugs Captain is no stranger to the poll after winning the "Best Penalty Killer" category back in 2006.
Goal-scoring forward Joe Blaznek was judged to have the league's second "Hardest Shot", finishing behind only Corpus Christi's Chad Woollard in that category.
In field full of strong candidates, defenseman Simon Mangos finished third in the voting for "Best Offensive Defenseman". Mangos, who is also a finalist for the CHL's Most Outstanding Defenseman award, came in behind Colorado's Aaron Schneekloth and Odessa's Alex Dunn.
As a unit, the Mudbugs were voted #1 as the CHL's Hardest Working Team, finishing ahead of the Texas Brahmas and Odessa Jackalopes to reclaim the category most associated with Mudbugs hockey. Bossier-Shreveport's ice rink at the CenturyTel Center also garnered a top-three finish in the category of "Best Ice Surface".
Off the ice, Bossier-Shreveport's fans showed up twice in this year's poll. The Mudbug Boilers Booster Club once again dominated the "Best Booster Club" category, finishing with nearly three times as many votes as the second-place finisher, Texas. The Mudbug faithful also got the nod as the third "Most Annoying Fans" in the CHL, behind only Wichita and Texas.
Finally, Mudbugs play-by-play man Travis Huntington finished in the top three in the "Best Broadcaster" voting, with only Corpus Christi's Josh Bogorad and Odessa's Brien Rea coming in ahead of the "Voice of the Mudbugs".
The 'Bugs are back on the ice at 7:05 pm this Saturday against the Mississippi RiverKings before returning home to take on the Corpus Christi IceRays Sunday at 4:05 at the CenturyTel Center.
