February 10, 2003 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

CARROLL SHUTS DOWN LUBBOCK – The Mudbugs began the week with their first trip of the year to Lubbock to meet the Cotton Kings on Thursday and first since the 2001 WPHL Championship win. Just as he did two years earlier, Ken Carroll shined in net for the Mudbugs with 19 saves to give his team a 2-0 win. Chris Brassard scored the lone goal of the first period with a power play goal at 6:48, assisted by Forbes MacPherson and Chad Spurr. In the second period, Jason Campbell capitalized on a giveaway to notch his 21st goal of the season. For the rest of the evening, the Mudbugs' defense took over to give Carroll his fourth shutout of the year and tenth of his career in the 2-0 victory. The win was also the 100th coaching victory for Head Coach Scott Muscutt.

EL PASO SMASHED ON FRIDAY – On Friday, Bossier-Shreveport began a four-game homestand as they hosted the El Paso Buzzards for the first time this year. Jim Sprott opened the scoring in the first period with his 11th goal of the season, his highest goal total since the 1999-2000 season. In the second period, Jay McGee, Jason Campbell, and Chad Spurr countered an El Paso goal by Russ Guzior to give the Bugs a 4-1 lead after two periods. In the third period, Chris Brassard and Dan Wildfong put the game out of reach for the Buzzards by each recording three points as the Mudbugs claimed a 7-1 win. Ken Carroll made 22 saves and ended the night with a streak of allowing just two goals in his previous 260 minutes.

MACPHERSON LEADS COMEBACK VS. SCORPIONS – On Saturday night, the Mudbugs produced one of their finest come-from-behind efforts of the year to defeat the New Mexico Scorpions in a shootout, 4-3. New Mexico started the game strong with two goals in the first period, including a shorthanded goal from Tyler Baines. After a scoreless second, Forbes MacPherson began a four-point effort with his 21st goal of the season. After New Mexico scored on the power play, Chris Brassard scored a goal for the third consecutive night to cut the deficit to one. Minutes later, Jay McGee tied the game on another assist from Forbes MacPherson. After a scoreless overtime which included prime chances for the Mudbugs, Forbes MacPherson scored the game-winning goal in the final round of the shootout to give the Mudbugs their sixth consecutive win.

MUDBUGS STARS OF THE WEEK Chris Brassard – Six points, including goals in all three games and the game-winner against Lubbock Forbes MacPherson – Four-point game against New Mexico, 11 points in the last five games, and a six-game scoring streak Ken Carroll – 10th career shutout on Thursday and 0.98 goals against average in the last five games

BUGS STILL ON FIRE – The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs have now won their last six games in a row, eleven of their last twelve, and twelve of their last fourteen. The Mudbugs have also not lost in regulation since January 11th (6-5 to Memphis), a span which covers twelve games. They currently stand just three points behind the Memphis RiverKings for the final playoff spot in the Northern Conference.

CAN'T BEAT KENNY – During the Mudbugs' current six-game winning streak, Ken Carroll has earned all six victories between the pipes for the Mudbugs. In his last eight games, Carroll is 7-0-1 with a 1.20 goals against average and has allowed just five goals in the last 305 minutes of action.

THIS WEEK – The Mudbugs will host the Memphis RiverKings in one of the biggest games of the season, thus far, on Friday night at the CenturyTel Center. Memphis currently owns the final playoff spot in the Northern Conference. On Saturday, the Mudbugs will meet the Lubbock Cotton Kings on "NASCAR Night" at the CenturyTel Center. The team will be wearing special NASCAR jerseys which will be auctioned off to fans after the game. Both home games begin at 7:05 p.m. On Sunday, the Bugs will then travel to Austin for the first time this year to meet the Ice Bats at 3:00 p.m.
