Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release
BOSSIER CITY, LA â The Central Hockey League has announced that Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs goaltender Ken Carroll has been named the league's Goaltender of the Week for his accomplishments in three games last week, as the Mudbugs continued their amazing play with three more wins.
Carroll began his impressive performance for the Mudbugs on Thursday February 6th with a 2-0 win over the Lubbock Cotton Kings. The Oil City, Ontario native stopped 19 shots to earn his fourth shutout of the year and tenth of his professional career. On Friday, Carroll continued with his solid play by allowing just one goal and making 22 saves in a 7-1 win over El Paso. He finished his impressive week on Saturday with 20 saves in a 4-3 come-from-behind win over New Mexico.
In the three games this week, Carroll allowed a total of four goals and stopped 61 of 65 shots faced. He has now allowed just five goals in the last 305 minutes of action and has a goals against average of 0.98 in the last five games. Along with his current six-game winning streak, Carroll is 7-0-1 in his last eight games. He currently ranks third in the Central Hockey League in both goals against average (2.13) and save percentage (92.9).
The Mudbugs have now won six games in a row and 11 of their last 12. They have not lost in regulation since January 11th (6-5 vs. Memphis) and have claimed 23 of a possible 24 points in the last 12 games to jump back into the playoff race in the Northern Conference.
This marks the second "Goaltender of the Week" award for Ken Carroll this season after also claiming the honor in Week 9. The Mudbugs have now had award winners in the CHL for the last two weeks. Forbes MacPherson was named last week's CHL "Player of the Week" after scoring seven points.
This Friday, the Mudbugs will host the Memphis RiverKings in one of the biggest games of the season, thus far. The RiverKings currently own the final playoff spot in the Northern Conference and are ahead of the Mudbugs by three points. On Saturday, the Lubbock Cotton Kings will visit the CenturyTel Center on "NASCAR Night." The team will wear special NASCAR jerseys which will be auctioned off to fans immediately following the game. Both home contests start at 7:05 p.m.
