Ice Riding Franchise-Best Nine-Game Winning Streak

February 10, 2003 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Indianapolis Ice News Release

With Saturday's win over San Angelo, the first-place Ice extended its winning streak to a franchise-best nine games which tops the old mark of eight set previously during the 1999-00 CHL season (2/4/00-2/15/00) and during the 1991-92 IHL season (2/29/02-3/15/02). Indy, who is also a phenomenal 22-2-1 in its last 25 games and 19-2-5 on home ice this year, has outscored its opponents 40-19 during the nine-game stretch.

The Ice leads the Northern Conference by nine points and has two huge games this week against its closest counterparts in the Oklahoma duo of the Tulsa Oilers and Oklahoma City Blazers.

VETERAN TWO-STEP: The record win streak has been spearheaded by the team's two elder statesmen in all-star defenseman Bernie John and centerman Kevin St. Jacques. The duo combined for 17 points (5G, 12A) in the three wins last week and have an incredible 34 points (6G, 28A) during the team's nine-game win streak.

More Bernie: John, who is riding a seven-game point streak (4G, 12A), trails Oklahoma City's Hardy Sauter by just two points in the CHL defensemen scoring race. The 30-year-old defenseman also registered his 400th career assist last week and his 51 points on the year rank him in a tie for fourth among defensemen in all of pro hockey. Ryan Gaucher of the Cincinnati Cyclones (ECHL) leads all pro blueliners with 59 points.

More Kevin: St. Jacques, 31, enters this week on the tails of a nine-game assist and point streak (2G, 16A). With eight points last week, he has moved up to eighth in the CHL in scoring (59 pts) and is second in the league in assists (44). He is also approaching another career milestone as the veteran forward is just five points away from 800 for his pro career.

ANOTHER SILVER GEM: Shawn Silver followed up a second consecutive CHL Goaltender of the Month selection by setting the new Ice record for consecutive wins in net. Silver posted his tenth straight victory in Saturday's win over San Angelo which breaks the old mark of nine set by goaltending mate, Jamie Morris (1999-00). His accolades don't stop there as the all-star netminder is 17-1-0 in his last 18 games and he is first in the CHL in goals-against-average (1.82) and second in wins (25) and save percentage (.931).

WHO'S BAD?: Etienne Morin is riding a five-game point streak (5G, 2A)…Jason Baird has 14 points (7G, 7A) in his last 12 games…Jamie Morris won his 50th game in an Ice uniform this past Friday…Scott Lewis is fourth in the CHL among d-men in plus/minus (+22)…Jared Dumba and Andrew Taylor each have three-game point streaks.

FILE IT AWAY: The Ice has only two regulation losses at home this year which is tops in the CHL…Indy's 14 road wins is second best in the CHL…The Ice is 26-3-1 when scoring first…Indy is 4-0-2 this year against Tulsa and 3-0-0 versus Oklahoma City and a combined 17-0-5 against the Northwest Division (Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Amarillo, Wichita).

“ZOEgirl” THIS SATURDAY: Talented lady trio, “ZOEgirl,” will be featured in a pre-game Christian concert this Saturday before the team's 7:00 face-off with the Oklahoma City Blazers from Conseco Fieldhouse. Doors open at 4:30 p.m. with the concert slated to begin around 5:00 p.m. Tickets are $12, $17 and $22 which includes the concert and game.
