February 10, 2003 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Lubbock Cotton Kings News Release

LUBBOCK COTTON KINGS

2002-03 WEEKLY RELEASE

FOR THE WEEK OF FEB 10 – 16TH

SECRET WEAPONS

The Central Hockey League requests that all teams have their Negotiation List roster and contracts turned in today (Monday) for all non-North American league players. European league regular season schedules wrap up in February and transition into post-season play and tournaments that can run into April (depending on the league). With European league players wrapping up their season while North American leagues are still playing, some players will choose to come or return to North America and join leagues in progress. CHL teams are able to add two current European league players to its negotiation list, which locks the players up with the team they signed with if they choose to play in North America. The players on the negotiation list are eligible to join the CHL teams and compete throughout the remainder of the season (including playoffs), but can only be added to the playoff rosters if they participate in at least 3 or more regular season contests. Lubbock added its two players on the list, but are not allowed to release the players names until their leagues complete play due to financial reasons. The ‘Kings added a veteran winger that is currently playing in the British Superleague and a defenseman that is currently playing in the Italian A1 League, which is Italy's top league. One of the ‘Kings selections is also a former NHL draft selection. Players signed to the negotiation does not mean they will participate with the ‘Kings. European league playoffs can go past the final date players can arrive in Lubbock, which would eliminate them from playing with the ‘Kings during the postseason. For the players to play with the ‘Kings in the post season, the players must arrive no later than March 14th. The Cotton Kings have signed negotiation list players in previous seasons, but none have ever been able to wrap up their European season to join the ‘Kings in time.

SELL-OUT

The Cotton Kings received their ninth sell-out in franchise history Saturday night, with an announced crowd of 7,050. The attendance also placed the Cotton Kings over the 100,000 mark for the season. The Lubbock Municipal Coliseum has averaged 4,644 fans this season, ranking the Cotton Kings fourth in the CHL in attendance behind Oklahoma City (8,655), Laredo (6,736) and Tulsa (4,694). The ‘Kings ticket department is aiming for March 1st as their next sell-out target date.

‘KING OF THE WEEK

Dave MacIntyre has been named as Lubbock's ‘King of the Week for February 3- 9th. The Lubbock captain recorded 6 points in three games to lead the squad in points for the week. MacIntyre assisted on four of the 'Kings 5 goals Friday in Austin to help Lubbock defeat Austin 5-4 and give himself a career high night in assists (4) and tie a career high in points (4). The Sydney, Nova Scotia native tallied two goals Saturday night to help the ‘Kings defeat Amarillo 5-3.

BACK ON TRACK

Lubbock is back in the playoff hunt and in the last (fourth) playoff spot with a 2-1-0 record last week. Corpus Christi had a one-point advantage over Lubbock, but they went 1-2-0 on the week and have fallen one point behind Lubbock and have played one more game than the ‘Kings. The New Mexico Scorpions went 1-2-1 on the week and have fallen two points behind the ‘Kings with an additional game played.
