Bernie John Named CHL Player of the Week

February 10, 2003 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Indianapolis Ice News Release

INDIANAPOLIS, IN-- The Indianapolis Ice announced today that all-star defenseman Bernie John was selected as this week's CHL Player of the Week and becomes the first defenseman to capture the weekly award this season.

The 30-year-old defenseman has been one of the offensive leaders during the team's current nine-game winning streak. In the three games last week, he led the Ice offensively with nine points (3G, 6A) to go along with two power play goals and a game-winning goal.

John, who is also riding a seven-game point streak (4G, 12A), has 51 points (12G, 39A) overall on the year and trails Oklahoma City's Hardy Sauter by just two points in the CHL defensemen scoring race. His 51-point outburst also ranks him in a tie for fourth in all of professional hockey.

The Ice looks to extend its franchise-best winning streak to ten games when the team travels to Tulsa for an 8:05 face-off Thursday night with the Oilers. Indy then returns home on Saturday for a 7:00 contest with the Oklahoma City Blazers from Conseco Fieldhouse. Saturday's game features a pre-game concert from Christian recording artist, "ZOEgirl." Doors open at 4:30 p.m. with the concert slated to begin at 5:00 p.m.

Fans can purchase tickets for Saturday's home game and all individual games at all Ticketmaster locations including select Marsh Supermarkets, Karma Records, select L.S. Ayers and the Pepsi Coliseum and Conseco Fieldhouse box offices, or by calling 239-5151 or online at ticketmaster.com.
