Mudbugs Come Back for 3-2 Win Over Mavericks

BOSSIER CITY, Louisiana - Travis Clayton scored two third-period goals and the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs overcame a one-goal deficit to defeat the Missouri Mavericks 3-2 Saturday night at CenturyTel Center. Missouri held a 2-1 lead on goals by Jeff Christian and Mike Burgoyne, but Clayton's two goals in the third period gave the Mudbugs their eighth win of the season. Missouri fell to 6-9-1 on the season and remains in sixth place in the Northern Conference.

The Mavericks failed to win their third straight game. Missouri has won two straight games three different times this season, but has yet to win three games in a row.

Christian opened the scoring in the final minute of the first period for his sixth goal of the season and 501st of his career. The goal for Christian extended his scoring streak to nine games. He was assisted by Derek Pallardy and Tyler Fleck.

At the midway point of the second period, Joe Zappala tied the game for Bossier-Shreveport on assists from Brett Smith and Tyrel Lucas. Missouri quickly regained the lead on Mike Burgoyne's third goal of the season. The goal came at the 15:32 mark of the second period on assists from Chad Hinz and Christian. Missouri outshot the Mudbugs 19-14 in the second marking the most shots in a period for the Mavericks this season.

The Mavericks held the 2-1 lead until the 13:31 mark of the final period when Clayton scored his first goal to tie the game at two. Then, while on the power play, Clayton struck again with just 2:03 remaining in regulation. Bossier-Shreveport outshot the Mavericks 15-3 in the final period and overcame the third period deficit for the victory.

Missouri will play a pair of home games next weekend. On Friday, December 4, the Mavericks will host the Wichita Thunder, and on Saturday, December 5 the Amarillo Gorillas will head to Independence Events Center.
