Fort Worth Brahmas News Release
NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas - The Brahmas went across town to battle the Allen Americans and came out with a single point in a 4-3 shootout loss Saturday evening.
Kevin McLeod entered the game second among defensemen in the league in goals with six, but was able to share the lead at the 8:56 marker in the game when he netted a powerplay goal past Charlie Effinger. With the man disadvantage the Brahmas looked as if they would add to their shorthanded goals this season when a 2-on-1 formulated when Tyrell Mason was sentenced to the penalty box; but a misfeed found the tape of an American stick that was saucered across the ice to Justin Bowers who beat Brett Jaeger for the tie.
Four minutes remained in the period when Texas forward James Hiebert chased the puck for an opportunity to go one-on-one with Effinger, but his efforts came a bit too solid as he was called for charging when Effinger left his crease to play the puck. The play concluded with Hiebert handed a game misconduct and an appearance by Chris Whitley between the pipes for Allen in the second.
Kurtis Dulle put the red up in the second just as a Brahmas penalty expired 1:48 in the middle frame. Yet, a delayed call on Allen gave McLeod his chance at the league lead for goals among his blueliner cohorts as he was able to pound the puck for his second of the night.
Allen reclaimed the lead when Nino Musitelli controlled the puck from behind the net and skated to the near faceoff circle to Jaeger's right and sizzled a shot one minute into the final period. Texas was able to celebrate later, but instead of the typical sticks being raised and cowbells, hats were necessary as McLeod notched his first professional hat trick and game tying goal.
Sixty minutes and the overtime would not be enough to settle the Metroplex showdown leading to the decisive shootout. Jaeger gave up the first three American efforts to put his team in a hole, but Jordan Cameron and Matt Burto proved clutch in the sudden death thriller as third and fourth shooters. In order to keep the shootout going, Grant Jacobsen needed to score but Whitley was able to come across the crease and stop the puck for the Allen victory.
The Brahmas will play their fourth game in five days tomorrow afternoon at the NYTEX Sports Centre for a 4:05 PM faceoff against the Tulsa Oilers; it will be the final game in the "Military Nights" series. All military personnel can purchase tickets for half price (with military I.D.) at the Box Office. Immediately following the game the Brahmas will put their game worn "Lady Liberty" jerseys up for auction in Section D with portions of the proceeds going to a local charity. For tickets please call (817) 336-4423 or go to www.brahmas.com.
