Gorillas win, $4 tickets go on sale Monday

Park City, KS - The Amarillo Gorillas worked their way to a victory Saturday, defeating the Wichita Thunder 5-2.
After Wichita struck first in the opening period, the Gorillas would counter with two markers of their own. Forward Joe Guenther would snipe a shot from the far circle past Wichita goaltender Jon Horrell to tie the game at one. With less than five minutes remaining in the period, defenseman Andrew Smale spanked the puck to himself up the far wall in his own zone, creating a two-on-one opportunity. Smale would feed forward Jake Morissette who ripped his one-time shot past Horrell for his twelfth goal on the year. At the end of one, Amarillo 2 Wichita 1.
Midway through the second, Gorillas forward Joe Guenther struck again with his second goal of the game on a highlight-reel goal diving toward the far side of the Wichita net. Forward Chris Cloud cleaned up the trash in front of the Wichita net at the 13:39 mark, giving Amarillo a three-goal cushion. Wichita's Jason Deleurme scored a power-play goal with less than four minutes remaining in the period to cut the Amarillo lead to two. At the end of two, Amarillo 4 Wichita 2.
Amarillo would not allow a goal in the final period of play, while Jake Morissette tacked on his second goal of the game. The final score Amarillo 5 Wichita 2.
Forward Joe Guenther notched his first road goal since October 30th at Laredo...David Nimmo collected two assists in only his second game back from the 30-day injure reserve...Jake Morissette earned his fourth multi-point game of the season.
The Gorillas will continue their second game of this four-game road trip tomorrow afternoon versus the Odessa Jackalopes. The game will be broadcasted on 1440 AM ESPN Radio and CHL-TV beginning at 3:55pm CST.
