Odessa Jackalopes News Release
(Odessa, TX) - For the second time in as many meetings, the Odessa Jackalopes and Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees needed a shootout to decide the winner on Saturday night at the Ector County Coliseum, with Odessa prevailing 3-2. Joel Martin was perfect in net for the Jackalopes during the four shootout rounds.
Phil Plante and Mike Ramsay each scored for the Jackalopes in the shootout, as Odessa's record improves to 14-3-2 on the season. Ramsay also netted the game-tying goal at 14:40 of the third period on a one-timer from the point that banked off the post for a power play goal. The tally extended Odessa's power play goal-scoring streak to 17 straight games.
Paul Kelly opened the scoring with the first period's only goal at 6:56. Kelly's backhand shot from the right circle slipped past Andy Franck for his 11th of the season. Kenny Bernard and Dominic Leveille added the assists to give the Jacks 1-0 lead at the break.
The Killer Bees claimed a 2-1 lead with a pair of second period goals. Zak McClellan's slap shot from the left side of the blue line trickled between the legs of Martin and in the net just 35 seconds in. The Bees took the lead at 15:40 on a broken play in front of the net when Grant Goeckner-Zeller found Jesse Bennefield on the doorstep for a goal.
The Jackalopes outshot the Bees 44-29 in the game. Odessa was 1-for-6 on the power play while Rio Grande Valley was 0-for-5. Phil Plante received the credit for the game-winning goal.
Odessa completes their three-in-three weekend on Sunday at home against the Amarillo Gorillas at 4:05 PM. It's the last opportunity to bring in an unwrapped toy in exchange for a voucher for a free ticket as part of the Salvation Army Toy Drive. The action can be heard on 102.1 Jack FM
