Rapid City Rush News Release

(Rapid City, SD) - On Friday night, the Rapid City Rush would head to their second overtime game of the season at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center. The Rush did not disappoint the sellout crowd as captain Luke Fritshaw scored two goals including the game-winner for the 4-3 victory. With the win, the Rush now enter their first-ever winning streak and have now won four of their last five games.

The opening frame didn't produce any scoring for either side, but the Rush took a hit nonetheless as Rapid City's leading goal-scorer, Colt King, was called for hooking at 18:36. He then received an abuse of officials game misconduct and was ejected for the remainder of the game.

Scoring opened up in the second period when Ryan Campbell gave the RiverKings the first lead of the game while on the powerplay. Kevin Jarman and Derek Landmesser assisted on the goal at 2:35. Scott Wray would then even the score at 1-1 when Les Reaney flipped a back hand to the veteran who finished the play. With the goal, Wray snapped an eight game goal-less drought that dated back to November 7th. Less than three minutes later, Mississippi would regain the lead as Matt Summers scored his first of two to make it 2-1 RiverKings.

In the final period, the Rush would mount a comeback that began with a powerplay goal from Derek LeBlanc. LeBlanc collected his first point of the season in his second game with the Rush after beginning the year in the AHL. Rapid City would get another first as Luke Fritshaw netted his first goal of the season to give the Rush their first lead of the game, 3-2. The RiverKings continued to fight and it finally paid off as Summers scored his second of the contest to even the score, 3-3. In the final six minutes, Mississippi received two separate 5-on-3 powerplay chances that the Rush were able to weather to send the game into overtime.

In extra time, the Rush would score their second overtime win of the season. Derek LeBlanc made a play along the boards and found a streaking Luke Fritshaw who netted the game winner just 39 seconds into the extra period.

Rush held the edge in shots 31-26 as Rush goaltender Danny Battochio made 23 saves for his fifth win of the season. The Rush ended the game 1-for-5 on the powerplay while the RiverKings were successful on one of their eight chances.

The Rush and the RiverKings clash again tomorrow, November 28th at 2:05pm. Tickets are still available for that game.
