
Bucks Slip Up In Corpus, Fall 2-1

CORPUS CHRISTI- The Laredo Bucks of the Central Hockey League fell to the Corpus Christi Ice Rays 2-1 Saturday night at the American Bank Center. The Bucks fall to 8-4-3 (19 points) on the season.
Kevin Nasituk stopped 29 of 30 shots he faced in net for Corpus, while Kyle Gajewski set aside 30 of 32 shots to suffer the hard-luck loss.
The Bucks jumped out in front of the Ice Rays just 4:56 into the first period. Darryl Smith deflected Igor Agarunov's shot into the back of the net to notch his sixth this season, while Agarunov picked up his third helper of the campaign.
The Bucks fall to 6-1-2 when scoring first this season.
Laredo outshot Corpus 11-10 in the first period.
The Ice Rays would score twice in the first 5:07 of the second period to take a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes.
Corpus tied the game at 1-1 just 1:45 into the second when Ryan Garbutt scored off of a slap shot from the left circle. The tally was Garbutt's fifth of the season.
The Ice Rays would take a 2-1 lead 5:07 into the second when Chad Costello hammered in a rebound from the bottom of the left circle. The strike was Costello's fifth of the season.
Laredo could not take advantage of a four-minute power-play early in the second period, as they only picked up one shot during that man advantage.
The Bucks were outshot in the second period 8-3.
Niether team scored in the third period, but Laredo had a quality chance to tie the game at 2-2 but failed to take advantage. The Bucks could not score on a two minute five-on-three power-play with 2:47 left in the game. Nasituk stopped three Bucks shots to secure the win for Corpus.
The Bucks were outshot for the game 32-30.
Saturday night Agarunov passed Steve Weidlich for third-place all-time in Bucks history with 302 games played.
Lance Monych was scratched from Saturday's game due to an injury he suffered in the Bucks 4-2 win Friday night.
