Moya, Mud Hens Crush G-Braves 12-5

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - Steven Moya hit a pair of two-run home runs and finished with five RBIs, leading the Toledo Mud Hens (11-12) to a 12-5 victory over the Gwinnett Braves (13-14) on Tuesday night at Coolray Field.

Moya finished a triple shy of the cycle and is now 7-for-8 with three doubles, two homers and eight RBIs in the series. He homered against G-Braves' starter Lucas Sims (L, 0-2) in the third inning and reliever Brandon Cunniff in the sixth inning for his sixth and seventh homers of the season to move into the International League lead.

Toledo pounded out 15 hits against Gwinnett pitching as Moya, Casey McGehee, Nate Schierholtz and Tyler Collins each had multi-hit games.

After breezing through the first inning, Sims allowed a double to Moya before Chad Huffman launched a two-run homer to put Toledo up 2-0 in the second. The visitors made it 6-0 in the third, as two batters after Moya's first homer, Schierholtz connected on his own two-run home run off Sims.

Sims hit Collins with a pitch and allowed a double to McGehee before departing in the fifth. The Atlanta Braves' No. 12 prospect according to MLB.com, Sims allowed eight runs (six earned) on eight hits over 4.0 innings. The Lawrenceville, GA native and Brookwood High School product walked none and struck out four in his first start at Coolray Field.

Offensively for the G-Braves, Sean Kazmar Jr. went 2-for-4 with a two-run single and Ronnier Mustelier doubled and scored twice as part of a 2-for-3 night. Gwinnett loaded the bases with nobody out in the fifth but scored just twice on a pair of RBI groundouts from Emerson Landoni and Ozzie Albies, the first Triple-A RBIs for both.

In the sixth, the G-Braves had five straight batters reach base with one out and scored three times, capped by Kazmar Jr.'s second hit of the night.

Warwick Saupold (W, 2-1) allowed five runs on six hits in 5.1 innings for Toledo. Four Mud Hens' relievers held the G-Braves to just two hits the rest of the way.

The G-Braves and Mud Hens conclude the three-game series on Wednesday morning at Coolray Field, first pitch set for 10:35 a.m. Right-hander Casey Kelly (1-0, 2.33) will start for Gwinnett against left-hander Matt Boyd (1-2, 3.05) for Toledo. Tony Schiavone and Nick Green will have the play-by-play call on 97.7 FM beginning at 10:05 a.m.
