More Roster Moves for the Walleye

Toledo, OH - Forward Evan Rankin has returned to the Walleye after his stint in the AHL with Utica. Defenseman Vili Saarijarvi (vill-ee, Sarr-ee-yarr-vee) has been assigned to the Walleye from the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL. Defenseman Joel Chouinard has been recalled to the Grand Rapids Griffins of the AHL and will join the Griffins tomorrow. Forward Tyler Maxwell has been released by the Walleye.

Rankin appeared in three games with the Comets and did not collect a point. He has appeared in 30 total games this season in the AHL with Lehigh Valley, St. John's and Utica with one goal and six assists. In 25 games this season with the Walleye he has picked up 23 points (12G, 11A). Rankin has scored 77 goals and is the Toledo Walleye career leader in goals scored.

Saarijarvi, a native of Rovaniemi, Finland, was drafted by the Detroit Red Wings in the third round of the 2015 NHL Entry Draft. The 18-year-old defenseman just completed a season with Flint in the OHL in which he posted 43 points (12G, 31A) over 59 games played. He also spent a year in the USHL with the Green Bay Gamblers where the 5'10", 165-pound defenseman posted six goals and 17 assists over 57 games played.

Chouinard rejoins the Griffins where he has appeared in eight games this season with one goal and two assists. He has 28 points (7G, 21A) and 32 penalty minutes with the Walleye this year. Over his career, Chouinard has appeared in 203 games at the AHL level with 16 goals and 33 assists.

Maxwell joined the Walleye in late December and skated in 36 games with five goals and eight assists.
