March 30, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Colorado Eagles News Release
(Tulsa, OK) - The Colorado Eagles scored three goals in the second period and found the game-winning goal late in the third period to defeat the Tulsa Oilers 4-3 on Wednesday. The win now gives Colorado points in six straight games and completes the sweep of their four-game road trip, which started with a pair of wins in Idaho.
After a scoreless first period, which was highlighted by several game-changing saves from both netminders, the Eagles and Oilers would both find their scoring touch in the second frame.
Tulsa would light the lamp first when defenseman Nathan Lutz snagged a rebound between the circles and wristed it into the back of the net to give the Oilers the 1-0 lead at the 5:02 mark of the second period.
Just 1:25 later, Eagles forward Kyle Ostrow would take the feed in the low-slot and wire it by Oilers goaltender Kevin Carr to even the score at 1-1.
Colorado would claim their first lead of the night at the 9:55 mark of the middle frame when forward Tyler Fiddler raced the puck down the right wing boards on a 2-on-1 breakaway, beating Carr top-shelf to make it 2-1.
The Eagles would continue to mount pressure deep in the Tulsa zone, as forward Curt Gogol took a cross-slot pass from fellow forward Sean Ringrose, snapping it into the net to grow the Colorado lead to 3-1 with just 51 seconds remaining in the second period.
With the Eagles leading 3-1 after 40 minutes of play, the Oilers would come storming back in the third period. Tulsa forward Shawn Bates would fire a shot from the boards on the power play to draw the Oilers to within one, making it 3-2 at the 10:36 mark of the third.
Tulsa would find the game-tying goal 1:40 later when Oilers forward Roberts Lipsbergs tipped home a centering feed on top of the crease making it a 3-3 game.
With only 2:36 remaining in regulation, Eagles forward Darryl Bootland would stuff a loose puck in the crease into the net to put Colorado up 4-3. The Eagles would hold strong defensively to complete the 4-3 victory.
Colorado now returns home to host the Idaho Steelheads on Friday, April 1st at 7:05pm MST at the Budweiser Events Center.
Tickets for groups of 15 or more start at just $14 per seat and can be purchased by calling the Eagles ticket office at 970-686-SHOT (7468).
