Allen Americans News Release
Allen, Texas - It has been a busy month of March for the defending Kelly Cup Champions with several school visits, a floor hockey game with students and faculty, a live radio show and another Faith & Family Night in Allen.
Reading Day in Plano - The Americans were a part of Reading Day in the Plano Independent School District on March 1st. Americans players Danny Federico, Nolan Descoteaux, Mike Gunn, David Makowski and broadcaster Tommy Daniels stopped by Primrose School of Plano to spend an hour reading with the younger students, 4 and under.
Career Day -The Americans attended Career Day at Rountree Elementary School in Allen in early March with Americans players Gary Steffes, Tristan King and Jacob Poe in attendance, along with Ice Angels Laura and Stephanie. The group spoke to children in grades 3 through 6 about life in sports and the importance of getting an education. The players took along equipment to demonstrate to the kids, while the girls talked about dancing and entertaining in front of large groups.
Americans Radio Show -The Allen Americans Weekly Radio Show made a stop at team sponsor Jimmy John's in Allen. Americans broadcaster Tommy Daniels spent the first half hour talking hockey with special guests, defenseman Aaron Gens and goalie Riley Gill. The Minnesota natives talked about the grind of defending their Kelly Cup Championship, as well as their love for fishing and the outdoors when they are away from the rink. The second half of the show Ice Angels Cassie and Stashia talked about life as an Allen Americans Ice Angel. Both girls are in their first season with the squad. We learned Cassie is a former Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader and Stashia will try out this spring for the Dallas Cowboys Rhythm & Blues Dance Squad. The players and Ice Angels stayed extra time to sign every autograph and pose for selfies with the fans in attendance.
Floor Hockey Game -For the second year in a row, the Allen Americans were invited to be a part of a floor hockey game at Daffron Elementary School in Plano. Americans players Chad Costello, Casey Pierro-Zabotel, Joel Rumpel and broadcaster Tommy Daniels joined the faculty team to play against the students. The students beat the faculty and Americans squad 7-6 in a shootout.
"This was so much fun," said Americans forward and ECHL leading scorer Chad Costello. "I think we were having as much fun, if not more than the kids. A special thanks to the staff at Daffron Elementary for having us back for a second year in a row."
The players signed autographs for the kids following the event.
Reed Elementary Morning Assembly - The Allen Americans were the guest speakers at the morning assembly at Reed Elementary School in Allen on Friday, March 24th. Allen Americans players Aaron Gens and Justin Courtnall spoke to the group on hockey, explaining the rules of the game, as well the importance of an getting an education. The two players handed out free ticket vouchers to all students in attendance.
Breakfast with the Easter Bunny - Allen Americans staff were on hand for Breakfast with the Easter Bunny at team sponsor, Splitsville on Sunday, March 27th. The Americans staff passed out candy and free ticket vouchers to all kids in attendance.
Faith & Family Day - The Allen Americans hosted another Faith & Family Game on March 27th. Americans forward Gary Steffes spoke to a group following the game with his message and the story of how his spiritual life has helped him in his hockey career. The Americans have hosted three Faith & Family Games this season.
Pucks & Paws - Allen Americans players teamed up with the SPCA of Dallas to host a Pucks-N-Paws Night in Allen. The SPCA dropped by practice with a few pets on March 10th to promote the big night. Americans players Justin Courtnall, Danny Federico, David Makowski and Spencer Asuchak took time before practice to pose for photos with the dogs.
