Moose Topped by Iowa 4-3
March 4, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Manitoba Moose News Release
The Manitoba Moose (35-16-4-3) tangled with the Iowa Wild (27-17-8-4) at Bell MTS Place on Sunday. Manitoba opened the scoring for the second game in a row off a point shot from Peter Stoykewych that found the far side of the net, past a screened Steve Michalek 2:33 into the game. Iowa evened things up at 8:15, courtesy of a Zach Palmquist power play tally. The Moose jumped back in front five minutes later on a familiar play as Sami Niku fired a shot around the crowd in front for his 11th goal of the season. Eric Comrie made 11 saves as the Moose took a 2-1 lead out of the opening period.
The Moose had no trouble getting pucks toward the net in the second period with 18 shots on goal in the frame. Michalek was equal to the task, blanking Manitoba in the period. The home side also rang a pair of chances off the posts with Tucker Poolman and Nic Petan foiled by the iron. The Wild tied the contest 5:22 into the period as Pat Cannone was able to sneak a rebound past Comrie. Iowa claimed its first lead of the weekend 11:36 into the frame when Ryan White scooped a loose puck to the back of the net as the Wild took a 3-2 lead to the third.
Iowa added to its lead 3:28 into the third as Viktor Loov sprung Zack Mitchell on a breakaway and the Wild forward put together a nice move to give Wild a 4-2 advantage. The Moose got back within one at 4:52 of the period when Buddy Robinson knocked a Tucker Poolman rebound out of the air and into the net for a power play goal. The Moose continued to push for the tying goal, but they weren't able to pull even, falling 4-3 to Iowa.

Head Coach Pascal Vincent on staying out of the penalty box - "It has to be a team commitment. There's a lot of emotions. There's a lot of intensity in the games. We like that. It's a matter of controlling those emotions. We're getting closer to the end of the season and those emotions will be there. We want to bring that intensity in the games, in control. That's something we'll need to discuss with the players."
Forward Buddy Robinson - "Everyone is in it for the same reasons. Everyone wants to win, and everyone's going to come to work hard every single game. To be in every game is good. We aren't getting blown out by anyone by any means. We're in every fight. We're in first place for a reason. We did it the right way early in the year. We're going through a little bit of a downfall now. I think we're going to get hot at the right time and ride a good wave in the playoffs."
