AHL Belleville Senators

Game Day Build-Up: Senators vs. Marlies, March 4

March 4, 2018 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Belleville Senators News Release

The set-up

The Belleville Senators will look to rebound from a disappointing defeat to Bridgeport Saturday as they'll complete their 3-in-3 in another installment in the Battle of the 401 against the Toronto Marlies.

The Sens (22-34-1-3) lost a 2-0 lead to the Sound Tigers Saturday and currently sit 20 points behind the Utica Comets, who they beat Friday, for a playoff spot.

Toronto (39-16-1-1) hold the best record in the AHL and hold a four-point lead on the Syracuse Crunch in the North Division.

The Marlies are coming off of a 4-1 loss to Rochester Saturday and haven't won in three contests. Belleville is 2-8 in its last 10 games.

Roster notes

The Sens signed defenceman Matt Petgrave to a PTO Saturday to add some more insurance to a blue line that's been depleted for much of the season.

Danny Taylor will start for Belleville after Marcus Hogberg started Saturday. Taylor recorded a 32-game shutout Friday against Utica.

Max McCormick, Jim O'Brien and Erik Burgdoerfer are with Ottawa while Kyle Flanagan, Francis Perron and Christian Jaros have yet to return for the Senators.

Previous history

Belleville is 2-4-0-1 in seven games against the Marlies this season but won their previous match-up 3-1 at the Yardmen on Feb. 16. After this afternoon's game, the teams will still meet four more times before seasons end.

Who to watch

Ben Sexton recorded two more points Saturday and has been in incredible form since a return from injury as he's notched 14 points in 13 games since Feb. 2. Sexton has eight goals and 16 points in 21 games this season.

Marlies defenceman Andreas Borgman started the year with the Maple Leafs playing in 48 points and scoring 11 points (three goals). Since being sent to the AHL, the Swedish rookie has two goals and four points in 10 games.

Where to watch

Sunday's game starts at 3pm and can be seen live on www.theahl.com through their AHL Live application (subscription required) or at Shoeless Joe's in Belleville.

The radio broadcast on CJBQ 800 begins at 2:50pm with Jack Miller on the call and David Foot on colour.
