Manitoba Moose News Release

The Manitoba Moose (7-7-0-0) fell 5-0 to the San Antonio Rampage (4-12-0-0) in Tuesday's school-day game. The Moose took the first penalty of the game 1:37 into the period giving the Rampage some momentum that carried them through the first period. The game's opening goal came near the midway point of the opening frame, when Samuel Blais capitalized on some concerted pressure in Manitoba's crease, backhanding a loose puck over a sprawling Eric Comrie.

The second period begin similarly to the first. The Moose took a too-many-men penalty just over four minutes in, but killed it off. Shortly after the advantage ended, Chris Thorburn sprung Jordan Nolan on a two-on-one. Nolan made a move in tight and scored, increasing the San Antonio lead to 2-0. The Moose power play with 7:26 left in the second sparked some strong Manitoba chances, the best of which came on a breakaway for Seth Griffith. Griffith deked out Binnington but his backhand rang off the crossbar.

The third frame was all about physicality. Both teams took their fair share of infractions after the whistle, leading to a grand total of 74 penalty minutes between the clubs. Near the 10 minute mark of the final period Eric Comrie left his net to play a bouncing puck. He lost it in his skates and Thorburn set up former Moose forward Ryan Olsen to make it 3-0. With 4:31 left in the game Felix Girard was charged with a match penalty. The Rampage scored twice more on that power play for the 5-0 final with Chris Butler's third point of the night, and Nolan's second goal of the game.
