SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The Springfield Thunderbirds are proud to be hosts to nearly 5,000 school students throughout the Pioneer Valley for the T-Birds 101 School Day Game, taking place on Wednesday, Nov. 14 at 10:35 a.m. inside the MassMutual Center in downtown Springfield.

"After the huge success of our first School Day game a season ago, we are thrilled to welcome even more students be able to take in a Thunderbirds game this year," said Thunderbirds President Nathan Costa. "We are excited to provide them with a meaningful educational experience that they otherwise might not have had the opportunity to have."

The second annual event -- made possible by MassMutual and Fontaine Bros. and grown in the past two seasons thanks to valuable contributions from Springfield Public Schools and First Student -- will serve as a synergy between classroom and hockey rink. Students in attendance will receive a special Springfield Thunderbirds themed educational workbook, featuring subjects ranging from geography to math and English. The game presentation inside the MassMutual Center that morning will also take on a classroom feel, as select schools will have the opportunity to become part of the game day experience through various activities and performances, including Springfield Central High School ROTC serving as the honorary color guard.

"MassMutual is proud to sponsor the Springfield Thunderbirds," said Dennis Duquette, head of community responsibility at MassMutual and president of the MassMutual Foundation. "The players and the entire organization have energized greater Springfield and given the community a terrific reason to come together to celebrate great hockey and instill pride in our wonderful city."

Prior to the game, the Thunderbirds will also be hosting a Sports Symposium for area middle school and high school students. Members of the local sports and entertainment industry, including members of the Thunderbirds front office, will speak to the class beginning at 9:00 a.m.
