Cleveland Monsters News Release
ROCHESTER, NY - The AHL's Cleveland Monsters were defeated by the Rochester Americans on Wednesday at Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, NY by a final score of 4-2. With the loss, the Monsters are now 24-23-6-1 overall this season and with 55 points, remain alone in sixth place in the AHL's North Division standings.
The Amerks grabbed a 1-0 lead on Wednesday when Zach Redmond wired home a five-on-five wrister at 2:45 of the opening frame before Paul Bittner equalized for Cleveland at 18:17 of the first with a power-play strike made possible by feeds from Mark Letestu and Dan DeSalvo.
In the second, the Monsters pulled ahead at 17:29 when Tommy Cross buried an extra-man chance with Letestu and DeSalvo providing the setup, but Rochester tied the game at two at 18:18 with a power-play marker of their own, courtesy of Danny O'Regan.
The final stanza saw Rochester post back-to-back goals, an even-strength score from Taylor Leier at 6:15 and an empty-net finish from Wayne Simpson at 18:23, to emerge victorious by a final score of 4-2. Monsters goaltender Jean-Francois Berube stopped 29 of the 33 shots he faced to fall to 16-16-5 this season while Rochester's Scott Wedgewood improved to 19-9-2 this year by virtue of a 29-save performance.
Next up for the Monsters, it's a Friday home clash vs. the Milwaukee Admirals with full coverage, live from The Q, underway at 7:00 pm on Alt 99.1, AHLTV and the Monsters Hockey Network.
