March 14, 2015 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Cleveland Monsters News Release
Three first period goals propelled the San Antonio Rampage (35-20-5-1) to a 5-2 win over the Lake Erie Monsters (27-25-5-3) Saturday night at the AT & T Center in San Antonio, Texas. Andrew Agozzino and Michael Schumacher scored for the Monsters in the loss. The Monsters visit the Texas Stars in their next game on Tuesday night at 8:30 p.m. Eastern.
San Antonio took a 3-0 lead into the first intermission. Wade Megan opened the scoring with an unassisted shorthanded goal at 10:08 of the first period. Megan intercepted a pass and streaked down the ice on a breakaway before snapping a shot past Monsters goalie Calvin Pickard. At 16:57 of the opening frame, shortly after the Monsters killed a San Antonio power play, Dany Heatley redirected a Connor Brickley shot past Pickard to extend the San Antonio lead to 2-0. Blake Parlett picked up a loose puck at the side of the net and scored to make it 3-0 Rampage with 13 seconds left in the first period.
The Rampage extended their lead to 4-0 15:06 of the second period when Brett Olson pulled a faceoff back to Garrett Wilson at the top of the left circle, and Wilson quickly snapped a puck past Pickard. The Monsters countered 44 seconds later when Reid Petryk centered a pass to Andrew Agozzino, springing Agozzino on a breakaway. Agozzino scored top-corner for his team-leading 18th goal of the season.
Heatley scored an empty-net goal to give San Antonio a 5-1 lead at 14:50 of the third period before Michael Schumacher pulled the Monsters to within 5-2 with his ninth goal of the season. Schumacher took a pass from Ben Youds in the right circle and put the puck past Rampage goalie Michael Houser for his ninth goal of the season. Bruno Gervais also collected an assist.
Pickard stopped 29 of 33 shots in the Monsters loss; he is 16-13-5. Houser is 13-9-3 after stopping 21 of 23 in the San Antonio win.
The Monsters visit Texas on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m. Eastern in the fourth and final game of their swing through the Lone Star State. Tuesday's game against the Stars can be heard live on ESPN 850 WKNR.
