Providence Bruins News Release
SPRINGFIELD, M.A. - The Providence Bruins scored five times in the third period to defeat the Springfield Falcons 5-0 Saturday evening at the Mass Mutual Center and win the season series. The Bruins scored twice within a minute span, and twice within 0:30.
The Bruins and Falcons combined for a dozen shots in the first, but Springfield had only two heading into the final four minutes. Ryan Craig had the first shot of the game with a one-timer from point-blank range, but Malcolm Subban made the pad save. The Bruins had a few chances in the slot, but couldn't get a shot off when they were there three times. Neither team had many chances during the two minutes of four-on-four. The Falcons had three shots toward the end of the period on a man advantage.
At one point in the second, Providence had a 20-10 shot lead, which included three great chances on the power play. Dansk prevented any of them from going in though, including a couple in a row on Justin Florek, who made a backhand move in front in between his pair of shots. Later in the frame, the Bruins had a 2-on-1 and even an Andrew Cherniwchan breakaway straight out of the penalty box, but Dansk held strong. (He was only 4-for-6 in his only other appearance against the Bruins this season, and was pulled only 4:11 in.)
When the P-Bruins finally got on the board in the third, they didn't hesitate to add to the lead. Cherniwchan capitalized on his second breakaway of the game, going top-shelf to put Providence on top at 5:05. After another turnover deep in the Falcons' zone, Tyler Randell had an unassisted goal on the left doorstep 0:58 later. Alexander Khokhlachev's wrister at 11:37 made it a three-goal advantage, and Kane capped the scoring with his pair (one 0:19 after Khokhlachev's).Â
The Bruins will be at home Sunday to play the Norfolk Admirals for the final time at the Dunkin Donuts Center at 3:05pm.
