Springfield Falcons News Release

Springfield, Mass. - The Providence Bruins rallied past the Springfield Falcons, 5-0, tonight at the MassMutual Center.

The Falcons are now on a five-game winless streak and sit at 32-23-7-0 on the season. The team also finishes the 10-game season series against the Bruins with a 5-5-0-0 record.

Falcons goaltender Oscar Dansk stopped 29 of 34 shots in defeat. Bruins goaltender Malcolm Subban earned his second shutout of the season, turning aside all 19 shots faced. Neither team was able to convert on the power play, with Springfield going zero-for-five and shutting down all three Providence man-advantages.

After two scoreless periods, the Bruins struck twice in just under a minute. At the 5:05 mark of the third, Andrew Cherniwchan forced a turnover at the Falcons' blue line. He outskated the defenders and shoveled in a backhander to break the stalemate. Tyler Randell added to the Bruins' lead when he beat Dansk from the crease with an unassisted goal 58 seconds later.

The Bruins extended their lead with another pair of back-to-back goals. Alexander Khokhlachev fired a shot from the right circle off assists from Zack Phillips and Tommy Cross to give Providence a three-goal lead with 8:23 remaining in the contest. Nineteen seconds later, Cory Kane redirected Cross's shot from the high-slot into the back of the net. Phillips recorded a mutli-point game with the secondary helper.

With 2:17 remaining, Kane struck again with a one-timer off a cross-crease pass from Seth Griffith to down the Falcons, 5-0. Frankie Simonelli earned a point for the secondary assist on the final tally.

The Falcons travel to battle the Albany Devils on Sunday, March 15 at 3 p.m.
