LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS

@ St. John's (1/20): The Manchester Monarchs dropped their second-of-three consecutive games against the St. John's IceCaps as they were shutout by a score of 2-0 at Mile One Centre on Monday night. Right wings Blair Riley and Andrew Gordon scored the only two goals of the night for the IceCaps. Monarchs goaltender J.F. Berube (15-12-2) took his 12th loss of the season making 25 saves on 37 shots. IceCaps netminder Michael Hutchinson (1-1-0) earned his first win and shutout of the season, stopping all 26 shots he faced during the game. Manchester was 0-for-2 on the power play. St. John's went 0-for-3 with the man advantage.

vs. Worcester (1/24): The Manchester Monarchs defeated the Worcester Sharks, 2-1, at Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night. Right wings Brian O'Neill and Zach O'Brien each registered goals for the Monarchs. Defenseman Matt Tennyson scored the lone goal for the Sharks. Monarchs goaltender J.F. Berube (16-12-2) earned his 16th win of the season making 32 saves on 33 shots. Sharks netminder Harri Sateri (11-14-1) took his 14th loss of the season, stopping 25-of-37 shots. Manchester was 0-for-2 on the power play. Worcester went 1-for-4 with the man advantage.

vs. Portland (1/25): Center Linden Vey scored with less than two seconds remaining in overtime to lift the Manchester Monarchs over the Portland Pirates, 3-2, on Los Angeles Kings Night at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Saturday night. Right wing Sean Backman and left wing Tanner Pearson joined Vey on the scoreboard for the Monarchs. Center Andy Miele and left wing Ethan Werek each scored goals for the Pirates. Manchester netminder J.F. Berube (17-12-2) earned his 17th win of the season making 26 saves on 28 shots. Portland goaltender Louis Domingue (6-3-2) took his third loss of the season stopping 36-of-39 shots. Manchester was 0-for-4 on the power play. Portland went 1-for-3 with the man advantage.

@ Worcester (1/26): Goaltender Mathias Niederberger started his first American Hockey League game and helped the Manchester Monarchs earn a point as they fell to the Worcester Sharks, 4-3, in a shootout at the DCU Center on Sunday evening. Center Jordan Weal, defenseman Colin Miller, and right wing A.J. Gale each collected goals for the Monarchs. Left wing Jimmy Bonneau, defenseman Matt Tennyson, and left wing Yanni Gourde scored for the Sharks. Right wing Zach O'Brien was the lone Monarchs player to beat Sharks netminder Harri Sateri in the shootout. Right wing Dan DaSilva and Gourde beat Niederberger for the shootout victory. Niederberger (0-0-1) took his first shooutout loss of the season and of his career stopping 28-of-31 shots through regulation and overtime, and two shootout snipers. Sateri (12-15-1) earned his 12th win of the season, stopping 28 of the 31 shots he faced and four-of-five shootout shooters. Manchester was 1-for-2 on the power play. Worcester went 1-for-3 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

The Manchester Monarchs (28-12-2-5) are ranked first in the Atlantic Division with 63 points. The St. John's IceCaps (24-16-1-2) sit in second place in the division with 51 points. The Providence Bruins (22-17-1-5) are in third place in the division with 50 points. The Worcester Sharks (20-17-3-1) are ranked fourth in the Atlantic Division with 44 points. The Portland Pirates (16-16-2-7) sit in fifth place in the Atlantic Division with 41 points.

The Monarchs are ranked 27th in the American Hockey League on the power play with 25 goals on 181 attempts. Manchester is ranked 16th in the league on the penalty kill stopping their opponent 164-of-200 times.

Manchester has had the most success on Saturdays as they have compiled an overall record of 14-3-0-1 on Saturdays.

Monarchs goaltender Martin Jones and right wing Linden Vey have been named to the roster for the 2014 AHL All-Star Classic, presented by Assante Wealth Management, to be played at the Mile One Centre in St. John's, Newfoundland on February 11-12, 2014. It is Vey's first time being named to the AHL All-Star roster. Jones will be unable to attend as he is on recall with the Los Angeles Kings.

Former Monarchs and current Kings forward Dustin Brown and goaltender Jonathan Quick have been named to the 2014 U.S. Olympic Men's Hockey Roster, which was revealed January 1. Both Brown and Quick were on the silver-medal winning 2010 U.S. Olympic Hockey team.

Former Monarchs and current Kings defenseman Slava Voynov was named to the 2014 Russian Olympic Men's Hockey Roster on January 7. This will be Voynov's first time representing Russia in the Olympics.

Center Jordan Weal (10-29=39) leads the Monarchs with 29 assists and 39 points.

Weal is tied for fifth place in the AHL with 26 assists.

Weal is also tied for eighth place in the AHL with 39 points.

Right wing Brandon Kozun (10-19=29) was traded to the Toronto Maple Leafs in exchange for center Andrew Crescenzi (1-1=2) on Wednesday, January 22.

At the time of the trade, Kozun ranked second on the Monarchs with 19 assists and 29 points.

Kozun ranks in the top 10 all-time in the following Monarchs categories:

Games Played - 263 - 10th place

Goals - 79 - second place

Assists - 100 - fourth place

Points - 179 - tied for second place

Power Play Goals - 25 - third place

Game-Winning Goals - 18 - first place

Shots - 543 - eighth place

Left wing Nick Deslauriers (14-13') now ranks second on the Monarchs with 27 points.

Deslauriers and left wing Tanner Pearson (14-12&) both lead the Monarchs with 14 goals each.

Deslauriers ranks third on the team with 68 penalty minutes.

Deslauriers also ranks second in the AHL with 162 shots on goal.

Pearson is ranked third on the Monarchs with 26 points.

Pearson has recorded one point, a goal, in eight games with the Kings this season.

Vey (7-18=25) is ranked fourth on the Monarchs with 25 points.

Vey is the Monarchs ninth all-time leader with 85 assists from 2011 - present.

Vey has also collected five assists in 15 games with the Kings this season.

Forward Nick Shore (7-14=21) moved into sole possession of fifth place with three assists last weekend.

Right wing Brian O'Neill (10-9=19) and left wing Andy Andreoff (7-12=19) are tied for sixth place on the Monarchs with 19 points each.

O'Neill and Deslauriers lead the Monarchs and are tied for 15th place in the AHL with three game-winning goals.

Andreoff leads the Monarchs with 100 penalty minutes.

Defenseman Andrew Bodnarchuk (5-13=18) is ranked eighth on the Monarchs with 18 points. Bodnarchuk leads the Monarchs and the AHL with a plus/minus rating of plus-29.

Right wing Scott Sabourin (10-7=17) is ranked ninth on the Monarchs with 17 points.

Right wing Tyler Toffoli (10-6=16) sits in 10th place on the Monarchs with 16 points.

O'Neill, Sabourin, Toffoli, and Weal are all tied for second place on the team with 10 goals each.

Toffoli has nine goal and eight assists for 17 points in 33 games with the Kings.

Defenseman Vincent LoVerde (2-13=15) is ranked 11th on the Monarchs with 15 points.

LoVerde ranks second on the Monarchs and second in the AHL with a plus-28 rating.

Defenseman Andrew Campbell (2-7=9) is the all-time games played leader in Monarchs history with 391 games played.

Jones made his National Hockey League debut with the Kings against the Anaheim Ducks on Tuesday, December 3. He backstopped the Kings to a 3-2 shootout victory, including going 9-for-9 in the shootout.

Jones picked up his first NHL shutout by stopping all 16 shots he faced in the Kings 3-0 victory over the New York Islanders on Saturday, December 7.

The rookie netminder then stopped all 31 shots he faced in the Kings 6-0 shutout of the Montreal Canadiens on Tuesday, December 10.

In 12 games with the Kings, Jones collected a record of 8-4-0, a .940 save percentage, a 1.72 goals-against-average, and three shutouts. Jones' eight wins tied the NHL record for consecutive winning games to start an NHL career with netminder Bob Froese who won his first eight games with the Philadelphia Flyers during the 1982-83 season.

Jones is the first goaltender in NHL history to allow an average of less than one goal per game while winning the first eight appearances of his career.

Jones is the third goaltender in NHL history to record three shutouts in his first six starts. Goaltender Flat Walsh accomplished the feat with the New York Americans during the 1928-29 season and netminder Frank Brimsek did it with the Boston Bruins during the 1938-39 season.

Jones went 2-0-0 in two games since returning to the Monarchs on January 5. Jones has an overall record of 11-2-2 with a 2.08 goals- against-average, a .933 save percentage, and one shutout in 15 games with the Monarchs this season. He was recalled back to the Kings on Wednesday, January 15.

Jones ranks second among AHL goaltenders with a 2.08 goals-against average and a .933 save percentage this season.

Jones ranks in the top 10 all-time in the following Monarchs goaltending categories:

Games played - 151 - first place

Wins - 79 - first place

Losses - 56 - first place

Ties/Shootout Losses - 9 - tied for second place

Goals-against-average - 2.43 - eighth place

Save percentage - .922 - tied for sixth place

Shutouts - 11 - third place

Saves - 4,103 - first place

Goaltender Jean-Francois Berube registered a 14-8-2 record in 24 consecutive starts during Jones' first stint with the Kings.

Berube set a franchise record for consecutive appearances by a goaltender with 20 games on December 29. His current record-setting streak sits at 24 consecutive games. He surpassed the feat of 19 games set by netminders Travis Scott from February 19 - March 22, 2003, and Jason LaBarbera from November 19 - December 29, 2006.

Berube has collected a 17-12-2 record with a 2.47 goals-against-average and a .913 save percentage in 31 games with the Monarchs this season.

Berube is ranked second in the AHL with 1843:11 minutes played and ranked third with 797 saves this season.

Berube recorded his first AHL shutout by stopping all 28 shots he faced in the Monarchs 6-0 win over the IceCaps on Saturday, January 18.
