Coyotes Recall Murphy, Assign Szwarz to Portland

GLENDALE, ARIZONA - Phoenix Coyotes General Manager Don Maloney announced today that the Coyotes have recalled defenseman Connor Murphy and assigned forward Jordan Szwarz to the Portland Pirates, the club's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate.

The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Murphy has registered 1-7-8 and 10 penalty minutes (PIM) in 21 games with the Coyotes this season. He has also posted 0-6-6 and 11 PIM in 18 games with Portland. The 20-year-old native of Boston, Mass. made his NHL debut this season on Nov. 16 vs. Tampa Bay. Murphy was originally drafted by the Coyotes in the first round (20th overall) in the 2011 Entry Draft.

The 5-foot-11, 200-pound Szwarz has recorded 3-0-3 with 19 PIM in 26 games with the Coyotes in 2013-14. He has also totaled 4-3-7 and 15 PIM in 12 games with the Pirates. The 22-year-old native of Burlington, Ont. made his NHL debut on October 29, 2013. Szwarz was originally drafted by the Coyotes in the fourth round (97th overall) in the 2009 Entry Draft.
