Islanders Send Two to Sound Tigers

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (Jan. 27. 2014) - The New York Islanders announced today that defenseman Matt Donovan has been loaned to the Bridgeport Sound Tigers (AHL). Additionally, goaltender Anders Nilsson has been returned to the Sound Tigers.

Donovan, 23, has split time between the Islanders and Sound Tigers in 2013-14. He began the season with the Islanders before a 17-game stint with the Sound Tigers. In those 17 games, he notched 14 points (three goals, 11 assists). With 112 points as a Sound Tigers, Donovan is the all-time franchise leader in that category for defensemen, and also ranks 11th among all players. In 32 games with the Islanders this season, Donovan has six points (one goal, five assists). The Edmond, OK, native was drafted by the Islanders in the fourth round (96th overall) in 2008.

Nilsson, 23, has also seen time with both the Islanders and Sound Tigers this season. He's made six appearances with the Islanders in 2013-14 and has a record 1-2-2. In 20 games with the Sound Tigers this season, Nilsson has posted a record of 5-12-2, a 3.08 GAA and .893 save percentage. Nilsson, who hails from Lulea, Sweden, was drafted by the Islanders in the third round (62nd overall) in 2009.

The Sound Tigers travel to Albany to face the Devils Friday night before returning home to take on the Springfield Falcons Saturday.
