The Monarchs did not have a game last week due to the holiday break. Below are the results from their last three games.

LAST WEEK'S HIGHLIGHTS (Recaps from the week of Dec. 12-18 as the Monarchs have not played since Dec. 18)

@ Providence (12/14): The Manchester Monarchs defeated the Portland Pirates, 2-1, at the Cumberland County Civic Center to move into first place in the Eastern Conference and the Atlantic Division on Wednesday night. Left wing Dwight King and defenseman Patrick Mullen scored the goals for the Monarchs. Right wing Patrick O'Sullivan tallied the lone goal for the Pirates. Monarchs goaltender Jeff Zatkoff (8-3-1) earned his eighth victory of the season stopping 19-of-20 shots. Pirates netminder Curtis McElhinney (8-10-0) took his 10th loss of the season making 24 saves on 26 shots. Manchester went 1-for-5 on the power play. Portland was 1-for-4 with the man advantage.

vs. St. John's (12/16): The St. John's IceCaps snapped the Manchester Monarchs eight-game home winning-streak with a 4-2 victory at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Friday night. Center Marc-Andre Cliche and right wing Stefan Legein scored the goals for the Monarchs. The IceCaps received goals from center Patrice Cormier (two), left wing Kendal McArdle and right wing Tom Maxwell. Monarchs netminder Martin Jones (9-8-1) took his eighth loss of the season stopping 25-of-28 shots. IceCaps goaltender David Aebischer (6-3-0) earned his sixth victory of the season making 26 saves on 28 shots. Manchester went 1-for-3 on the power play. St. John's was 1-for-6 with the man advantage.

vs. Worcester (12/18): The Manchester Monarchs enter their holiday break on top with a 3-1 win over the Worcester Sharks at the Verizon Wireless Arena on Sunday afternoon. Right wing Brandon Kozun, left wing Dwight King and right wing Linden Vey tallied goals for the Monarchs. Right wing Jack Combs scored the lone goal for the Sharks. Monarchs netminder Jeff Zatkoff (9-3-1) earned his ninth victory of the season stopping 40-of-41 shots. Sharks goaltender Antero Nittymaki (1-1-0) took his first loss of the season making 25 saves on 28 shots. Manchester went 0-for-2 on the power play. Worcester was 0-for-3 with the man advantage.

MONARCHS NEWS & NOTES

The Manchester Monarchs (18-11-0-2) are in second place in the Atlantic Division with 38 points. The St. John's IceCaps (17-7-4-1) sit in first place in the division with 39 points. The Worcester Sharks (13-8-3-3) are in third place in the division with 32 points. The Portland Pirates (13-12-1-2) are tied with the Providence Bruins (13-15-1-2) for fourth place in the division with 29 points each.

At the Verizon Wireless Arena this season, Manchester owns a 10-5-0-1 record.

With a 4-2 loss on Friday, December 16, the IceCaps snapped Manchester's eight-game winning-streak at the Verizon Wireless Arena. All eight victories were decided by one goal. The eight-game winning-streak was just two victories shy of the franchise's home longest winning-streak (10) set during the 2004-05 season.

The Monarchs were also undefeated in regulation in their last six games (5-0-0-1) prior to their loss on Friday, December 18.

Manchester has not lost back-to-back games in regulation since October 22-26.

Eight of the last 14 Monarchs games have gone into overtime or a shootout. Manchester is 10-3-0-1 in their last 14 games.

This season, the Monarchs are 13-3-0-2 in games that have been decided by one goal.

Manchester is 13-6-0-2 against Atlantic Division teams this season.

The Monarchs are undefeated in regulation, 9-0-0-2, in games when they have led after the first period and 8-0-0-1 when leading after the second period.

When scoring first this season, the Monarchs are 12-2-0-2.

Manchester's 589 penalty minutes rank third in the league this season. The team is averaging 19.0 penalty minutes a game which ranks fifth in the league.

The Monarchs have been outshot in 20 of their 31 games and own a 12-7-0-1 record in those games.

Left wing Dwight King (4-13=17) leads the team with 17 points and 13 assists.

King had a seven-game point-streak (2-5=7) snapped on Friday, December 16.

The left wing had a three-game assist-streak (three assists) snapped in a 2-1 win on Wednesday, December 14.

Monarchs center Marc-Andre Cliche (9-7=16) leads the team with nine goals and is tied for second place on the Monarchs with right wing Brandon Kozun (8-8=16) with 16 points each.

Cliche ranks second on the team with a plus-9 rating.

Cliche's three game-winning goals are tied for seventh place in the AHL.

Going a perfect 6-for-6 in the shootout, Cliche ranks first on the team and in the AHL.

Kozun is second on the team with eight goals scored this season and has recorded at least one point (4-7=11) in 10 of his last 11 games.

Kozun is currently on a four-game point-streak (1-4=5).

Kozun's three power play goals lead the team.

Defenseman Patrick Mullen (5-10=15) ranks fourth on the team with 15 points.

Mullen had a five-game point-streak (3-3=6) snapped on Sunday, December 18 and had a three-game goal-streak (three tallies) end on Friday, December 16.

Mullen leads Monarchs defensemen with five goals and 15 points this season.

Right wing Jordan Nolan (6-8=14) is tied for fifth on the Monarchs with right wing Linden Vey (7-7=14) and center Andrei Loktionov (3-11=14) with 14 points each. Nolan's 95 penalty minutes lead the Monarchs and is tied for fifth place in the league.

Loktionov was recalled by the Los Angeles Kings on Monday, November 14 and has recorded two points (0-2=2) and two penalty minutes in 15 games this season.

In 35 career games with the Kings, Loktionov has nine points (4-5=9) and four penalty minutes.

Center Justin Azevedo (5-8=13) and defenseman David Kolomatis (4-9=13) are tied for eighth place on the Monarchs.

Left wing Richard Clune (4-4=8) ranks second on the team and is tied for 12th place in the AHL with 86 penalty minutes.

Clune changed to No. 13 with the addition of left wing Ethan Moreau (0-0=0) who will now don No. 17.

Defenseman Thomas Hickey (0-8=8) leads the Monarchs with a plus/minus rating of plus-14. His plus/minus rating is also tied for seventh in the AHL.

Right wing Stefan Legein (3-1=4) has three goals in his last four games. Defenseman Slava Voynov (2-1=3) was recalled to the Kings on November 15. In 20 games with Los Angeles this season, Voynov has seven points (4-3=7) and six penalty minutes.

Goaltender Martin Jones owns a 9-8-1 record, a 2.53 goals-against-average and a .920 save percentage in 18 games for the Monarchs this season.

Monarchs netminder Jeff Zatkoff has registered a record of 9-3-1, a 2.05 goals-against-average and a .935 save percentage in 15 games.

Zatkoff's 2.05 goals-against-average ranks third in the AHL and his .935 save percentage is second best in the league.

Zatkoff's 3-1 shootout record ranks fourth in the AHL.

MONARCHS PROMOTIONS

New Year's Eve Celebration - The Monarchs will be ringing in the New Year with New England's largest indoor fireworks display when they take on the Providence Bruins at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 31. The first 2,000 fans in attendance will receive glow in the dark rally towels, courtesy of Manchester Subaru.
